    Porsche told me there´s a service action to substitute the HPFP.

    Yesterday I called my dealer to book my first mantainance service and the tech told me there was a world wide service action to substitute the high pressure fuel pump and that my VIN was inclueded on this action. It´s not a recall, they will make it when you drop the car to make some service I believe. My car is MY 10 , I receive it in August 2009. Normaly one of the signs of a bad HPFP is longer cranks to start the engine, mine doesn´t do it but they will substitute anyways.

    Check with your dealer if your 997.2 is included on this action.

    It happened on my 2010 Cayman S. Not only did you have to crank longer but I also got a message that the engine was running on reduced power. You could feel the difference. It was like driving using only half the cylinders. All returned to normal after the fuel pump was replacedSmiley

    I had mine replaced when the car was 1 year old sometime in 2010. The symptoms were inability to accelerate above 2500-3000 rpm. Starting up was OK.

    Well, actually my car ocasionaly (twice a month maximum) cranks more than usual, but never took more than two cranks to start. There are some complains about loss of power on 1 and 2 gear, this I never felt.

    One main symptom of HPFP failure is the engine "choking" under load, lile you hit a rev limiter at 3000rpm or even less.

     I checked with my dealer, and my 2011 987.2 isn't affected..

     Thanks J. Seven. I took my car to the dealer today and asked them to check the VIN for the HPFP replacement recall and sure enough there it was.  Perhaps worldwide doesn't include South Florida??  To paraphrase the Bard, there's more on Rennteam than dream't of in the dealer's philosophy of customer service.
