The guy they stole the California from is the richest Australian under the age of 40 and he can't afford a fu..ing alarm system for his beach house, especially if he and his family are sleeping there? Oh boy...I can't believe some super rich people are that dumb. 
I have a friend in Germany, he lives in a 5 Mio. EUR house near Munich, his company made 80 Mio. EUR last year, it was even in the newspaper and he still doesn't have an alarm system. When I asked him why not, he told me that he has no money or real valuables in the house, so why should somebody break in? 
No further comment, I argued the whole night with him about this, no chance.
People seem to learn from experience, this australian guy was lucky that he and his family were not harmed in the incident.
