I did not attend the great race. I will not do so until Porsche turn up with a overall winning car---or at very least a class winning GTE
Apparently there was some sort of reference to Porsche returning in the near future with mid-engined models. - Apparently this was commented on the TV commentary. I did not hear it. (I was listing to Radio Le Mans and watching it on TV)
There was no reference to the class (as far as I can tell)
Personally I would be very surprised if Porsche turned up with a LMP1 next year.
Furthermore, I really don't know what they are going to do for the 2012 season.
Unless the ACO gives the 997 a substantial restrictor break, it will simply not be competitive enough to challenge for the lead (under normal conditions) against the 458's , Vette's and BMW's.
Also - If the rumors are true about the991 GT3 having the MA1 engine, I cant see how Porsche is going to be able to race this (given the dry sump issue)
I have also read that Porsche may consider a 8 cylinder engine for the 991 if the demand is there. (I am skeptical about this - but I am just reporting what I have read).
Anyway - Much of what happens next year will depend on the new set of rules that the ACO and now the FiA will conjure up for the WEC. The next 2 years may bring about substantial change.
