James May comments on the future of Top Gear...
...my vote would be for Chris Harris from Evo magazine to join Top Gear as a new presenter!

I watched tonight's show ... Season 17 Episode 2
The Aston Martin Virage review just showed to me that AM has clean run out of ideas ... their cars look so similar and there is too little to differentiate them IMHO ....
James May obviously has a back problem right now but that doesn't mean he should blame the Nordschleife for the kind of handling that all performance cars have today ...
If it weren't the Nordschleife, manufacturers would be testing their cars somewhere else ... but they are hardly going to stop testing the handling of their cars ... the Nordschleife is just a much better test of any car ...
The hatchback drive through Italy was a bit of fun ... Lucca really is that narrow and tricky to get round ... we walked it in Aug 2007 rather than driving ...
I loved the Monaco segment ... wish I could drive the F1 circuit ...
I hope they do some long drives in better cars though ...

I don't believe that Top Gear has showed that review yet. Hopefully, it will be in a later show.
The pre-show press release stated that they would review the two cars in episode 2... even the iPlayer description says so: "Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May are in Italy to take part in a series of tricky challenges and increasingly loud arguments as they attempt to find the world's best hot hatchback. With Clarkson in the Citroen DS3 Racing, Hammond championing the Fiat 500C Abarth and May making the case for the Renaultsport Clio Cup, the trio attempt to navigate their way around baffling Italian towns and take part in a scavenger hunt before heading up to Monte Carlo where they're faced with a surprise test of their cars' performance. Also in this show, Jeremy is out on the track in the McLaren MP4-12C supercar, while petrolhead comedian Ross Noble is the star in the Reasonably Priced Car."
Hmm, perhaps McLaren weren't satisfied with the laptime and want the top gear team to test an "optimised" car?
