Journalists don't have to live with their purchasing decisions. A Lotus dealer told me he would have a Cayman S instead
Reading the above, a Lotus dealer doesn't either
In the end, only you can tell, if a car ticks all your boxes, not some dealer.
Here's another comparison review between the Cayman R and the Evora S :

Lotus are cars that the journalists love in the context of a a trial for one or two days. Also many enthusiasts love to test drive a Lotus and experience their handling characteristics.
However, relatively few people actually buy these cars and decide to own and live with them because they are not complete in a number of areas, especially at the prices Lotus ask. There are many good cars around these days to choose from and the vast majority of buyers want multi-talented cars instead of one-dimensional ones. We are not in the 60s when only the Elan could handle well.

I understand what you mean, and I also agree with you. Although the newer cars, which include the Evora, have improved a lot over the years, especially in the build quality area. I wouldn't dare to say they are on par with a Porsche, but they are no longer as unreliable as they used to be (Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious).
