I'm almost certain that 1970 kg of panamera is the lightest possible weight (probably with PCCB's and lightest wheels). So M5 is lighter well over 220lbs and people are still complaining. I wouldn't buy either of them but I think M5 is a smarter choice in terms of value, daily use and practicality.

It says: "Weight is calculated in accordance with the relevant EC Directives and is valid for standard specification vehicles only. Optional equipment means greater weight. The figure given includes 68 kg for the driver and 7 kg for luggage."

All manufacturers probably calculate it the same way.

Panamera is AWD which accounts for the difference in weight to great extent, if not entirely. The RWD V8 PDK model is 1800kg.

To compare like with like we have to wait for the AWD M5

Why is there no smiley face at the end of this sentence?

Unlike Porsche and Audi, BMW (and Mercedes) prefer to produce their most sporting cars without the possibility of AWD.

Am I missing some commonly know fact?

Re: The new M5 - Official Specs

    Agreed.

What we need to see is actual German price tag for new M5. IF BMW price it right(I think they will) new M5 will probably be a very good to excellent buy(price/performance ratio) in its class.

CLS63 or E63 are with similar options priced around 20K(at least) € lower then Panamera Turbo or Turbo S. And IMHO new M5 true competitor are CLS63, E63 or Jag XFR. NOT Panamera Turbo or Turbo S. If I decide to go for Pana Turbo-then Pana Turbo will be. If I want to calculate with price then probably my decision will be new M5. At least, this is my view.

Very good point which IMO also applies to other Porsche models, even if they are not always on top in all areas of comparison, including value for money.

If you like what a Porsche offers, it's highly unlikely that anything else will do. In spite on modernization Porsche still maintain some unique features which attract.

Re: The new M5 - Official Specs

Hi everyone, can someone please explain me a technical detail. The Valvetronic is here to add efficiency to the engine by reducing the pumping losses but in all engines where it is implemented the boost pressure is higher :

    N54 : 0,8 bar vs N55 (Valvetronic) : 1 bar for the same hp

    S63 (X6M) : 1,2 bar vs M5 : 1,5 bars for just 5 hp more.

    Thanks

Love this new M5, understated look and 560 Turbo Hp (easily boosted to +620hp with ECU tune Smiley ) to play with. Perfect family sports car, any lousy 520D with sport package will look like this M5, which will turn this car into a wolf on clothes sheep Smiley I would buy it and put the 520D badge Smiley.

Re: The new M5 - Official Specs

German price for new M5 is 102700€ with Mwst. Fully equiped(with 305km/h option) it is around 122000€ with Mwst. Now, that is a bargin IMHO! Similary equiped E63AMG is around 25K € more, CLS63 30K € more and Pana Turbo 45K € more...

Re: The new M5 - Official Specs

M5 is on BMW´s German website with cataologue and pricelist in pdf-format.

Compared with mine Panamera turbo - same options - the M5 would be 127.000 € - nearly 30.000 € cheaper.

Take the lost in value after three years the M5 is about 7.000 € cheaper. Every day 6.50 €. For the 6.50 I rather drive my Panamera. It is faster, has plenty more room, it is something special.

M5 is the smartest choice in its segment, IMO. No one has tested/driven the final production car but if we look how M GmbH tune the E92 M3 and 1M, F10 M5 will probably brilliant.

I never like the E60 M5/M6, and never thought of owning one BUT this F10 M5 is very tempting.

I fully agree about Pana Turbo or Turbo S. It is a unique car and as you said something special.

IMHO as I already wrote in one of my previous post if you want Pana Turbo, then Pana Turbo it will be.

BUT, what if you choose between CLS 63 AMG and new M5? I would go for new M5.

ho you think we should forget the idea of AWD M5? Only RWD one?

If so - it would be hard to compete with Pana Turbo. For me this is the key moment.

I would never ever buy AWD(or Xdrive) M5. RWD is here a must IMHO.

Pana Turbo or M5? If you truly want Pana Turbo no other car will be as good. Simple as that.

Me? Pana Turbo is amazing car and it is the best sportlimo on the market. Just... I hate air suspension(same on AMG E/CLS models) despite the fact that on Pana Turbo air suspension works excellent.

Porsche? 991 for sure. Cayenne? Give me Touareg V6 TDI. Pana? Either Diesel or Turbo/Turbo S.

Just-how much sense does it make to own Porsche brand cars only? Hmm... Not much IMHO.

     >500 hp in a sedan without AWD - no no no

RWD: for rubishing the rear tires it is ok, for destroying the car in rain, too. Maybe you like the ESP light in your car blinking.

AWD: For fast and secure driving you need AWD

We are speaking about a family car not a sports car which you dont´t drive in bad conditions.

    FERRARI RULES!!!

Re: The new M5 - Official Specs

I think we are mixing "traditions" with "costumer demands"...

Ferrari FF comes with AWD because it`s pointed to a different kind of driver, then for e.g. a 458 driver...

The driver of a FF will go on weekends with the family to snow camps... A 458 driver will go alone to a track or mountain road on dry conditions (or the more dry possible).... and why? Because a 458 driver want a more "pure" drive....

That`s why we have Carrera S and Carrera 4S.... to satisfy the "two worlds"....

Now what about a saloon with almost 2000kg and more then 500 bhp and in wet conditions? Well maybe AWD is the solution....

However this saloon it`s a M car.... un M5.... and this means a lot.... Driving a BMW it`s very different compared with a Mercedes or Audi.... Driving un M it`s even more special.... the RWD (along with brilliant chassis) it`s what make un M...

Yes of course, don't get me wrong on this, Kreso. I have absolutely no problems with grey for the exterior, most probably that would even be my choice or at least among the colours I would consider, but first there should be more standard colours to choose from and secondly I expect something more than a black interior (allright, but hey it's black), light grey (which is too light for my taste) and some hideous orange colour shade.
