Re: GT3 RS 4.0 - Everything you always wanted to know !

The 4.0 is almost like THE collector car for Porsche. I prefer a GT car yet I still want one, that pretty much sums up the market for it.

Cayenne is hot every where, here the wait list for one is almost 9 months, unreal. Even the Panamera is a 4-6 months wait.

Re: GT3 RS 4.0 - Everything you always wanted to know !

The local OPC manager tells me that only 4 of the RS 4.0s are coming to South Africa - vs. 20 confirmed orders.  That means 16 very irate long-term Porsche supporters in this (admittedly small, but historically loyal) market.

There is only one official Porsche importer in the country, which owns all three of the OPCs (one in each of the major cities).

SA is actually getting 5 and pending. They got a total of 6 GT2RS of one which is in your city (white one). Don't know what is happening to it as the owner passed away.

    You snooze, you lose

Re: GT3 RS 4.0 - Everything you always wanted to know !

lol, you're actually buying 40% of available 4.0RS's in your country

Re: GT3 RS 4.0 - Everything you always wanted to know !

Thanks Porker. There was a red clubsport for sale here for 350k EURO local price with 17k km's. I already have a 993 in the lot, so for now I'm happy Smiley

We should start a thread discussing what cars Mike DIDN'T have. That might be easier.

Re: GT3 RS 4.0 - Everything you always wanted to know !

The RS 4.0 is the collector's Porsche. There is no doubt about it.

There is no Porsche I actually wanted more than the RS 4.0 and I'm pretty sure I'm going to bite my tongue out of grief because I didn't go for one but life has been good so far, I shouldn't complain, kids are healthy, I should be thankful and accept that I can't always have everything in life.

In the end, it is just a car...isn't it ?

Btw: I would drive the hell out of it, if I would own one. What are car collections good for if you don't drive the cars you collect ? I never understood those who collect cars just for the sake of collecting and/or value increase. Maybe because I can't afford a car collection ?

RC, you love cars and when you see one parked in front of you, you see something that demands to be driven.

Car collectors who don't use their cars do not love cars. They love money. When they see a car parked under a dust cover in a humidity controlled, air-conditioned storage area, they don't see a car, they see a pile of dollar bills.

The same goes for wine collectors, art collectors and any other kind of collector who doesn't use what they collect.

    PureBlue:

IMO this is missing the point.  For many of us, mastering a manual shifter is part of the thrill of driving (even if we'll never have the skills of professional racing drivers).  There is no substitute for the involvement or control that comes with a manual gearbox.

Call me old-fashioned, but this is part of the reason Porsche remains the ultimate sportscar for me - the fact that, unlike Ferrari or McLaren, they still understand that for many enthusiasts, a manual option remains important.  I dread the day Porsche decides to go the Ferrari route and make PDK the only option.

If you want the power and speed, but you're not interested in tracking your car and you prefer an auto box, buy a Turbo S.  Smiley

BTW I wouldn't mind seeing a good sequential box as an option on some of the hardcore 911s, but with a floor-mounted shifter along the lines of the GT racing cars.

Agreed.  Sequential/paddle boxes make sense for the track where you're looking for hundreths but I prefer a manual for the street.  Whenever I drive a paddle on the street I tend to revert back to automatic mode and thus lose some of the involvement that comes with a manual.  The other issue with paddles is that no matter how good or intuitive they make them you're still talking about only a handful of shift program options.  A manual allows you to project an unlimited number of moods/styles onto your drive.

Back OT, thanks for the PDF.  Very imformative.
