    Hockenheim Track-Day

Here some pics from a great track-day on last saturday in Hockenheim. The event was organised by "Speer-Racing" - just 40 cars on the track.

Plus a video with some action Smiley caused by the lost oil of an Ariel Atom:

FANTASTIC!!! That place is great - glad you had a great time - I had a brilliant time at a PSDS Track Day there in May 2010

    Very nice photos blueflame!

That must have been a scary moment for you I'm glad the oil spilling didn't result in any material damages (except for the Atom) or worse.

    P.S. I like your helmet

Lovely photos! I'd love to drive on Hockenheim sometime soon!

    Re: Hockenheim Track-Day

Funny video, luckily no damage for anyone (apart from the Atom owner I assume). At the time you passed, were you already yellow flagged to warn you about the spill?

    Re: Hockenheim Track-Day

    Thanks Smiley

Yes the situation was very scary, because I passed the Lambo just before the spin and he was not far behind me...

Last week I have seen the Nordschleife Video of the italian guy, who destroyed his Exige S because of oil on the track - I never thougt I will repeat his experience so fast.Smiley

I really have done a lot of laps in Hockenheim, but I had no chance to avoid that spin - really scary. But the driver of the orange Elise and the 211 experienced the same...Smiley  After the spin I was sure that I had a blown tyre or a broken toe link. But I could not see anything in the pits. At that point I was ready to sell my car and to start playing Golf Smiley Than I heard about the oil on the track.

If you watch closely the video, you can see that AWD or ESP/PSM is helpfull under these conditions.

No damage to any car Smiley - the track was closed for 15 Minutes for cleaning up the oil.

Sadly, no flags at all - big mistake by the marshallsSmiley. After two more spins the session was red-flagged.

Luckily you really did not repeat the experience, as your car didn't suffer any damage SmileySmiley
I wonder why there was no Marshal around (I understood from the Speer homepage that there would be Marshals taking care of the track safety ?).

An oil spill behind a blind fast corner is the thing which scares me most when having fun in the Eifel.

Selling your car and starting to play Golf - hahaha, I know what you mean. I recently had exactly the same feeling when my car's rear unexpectedly stepped out at Miss-Hit-Miss and I only calmed down after knowing that a friend in his new GT3 RS had exactly the same moment at the very same spot only a minute or so before me Smiley

Anyway, with 40 cars only I'm sure you had a lot of fun Smiley Certainly different from the Touristenfahrten at HHR. I never attended those but judging from what some friends are telling a busy TF day at the Nordschleife must be "cosy" in comparison Smiley

A well organised trackday is always the best option Smiley

Looks like a very nice event, too bad that the oil spill wasn´t indicated by the marshalls. Other than that, thrilling lineup...

By the way, are those glowing rotors or are they still rusty? Smiley

    Re: Hockenheim Track-Day

Still rusty from winter ! Smiley The braking for Nordkurve is very tough on the brakes, especially if a Z06 is chasing you...

    Re: Hockenheim Track-Day

The hardest braking point is at the end of the curved Parabolica on the approach to the hairpin  This involves a speed reduction from around 250 km/h down to around 50 km/h. It's brutal on the car and on the driver too

Your are right - but my brother was at pits with his camera - so no pics from Parabolica.

BTW with the Elise SC I have there a top speed of just 220 km/h, but we brake for the hairpin just before the 100m sign... - try that in your 997sSmiley

    Re: Hockenheim Track-Day

Interesting - I was easily reaching around 230 km/h in Parabolica - but I was holding back - I could have gone at 250 km/h (maybe 260 km/h max) but I was playing it safe.

As for braking before the Spitzkehre hairpin, I used to play it safe - I started braking at the 150 metre board and went down to around 60 km/h with a sweet late turn-in.

    My favourite parts though were:

    1) the Mercedes Arena - it was a sweet feeling doing 2 consecutive left turns with the same steering position, and

    2) the Sachs Kurve section is sublime - I really loved it because it was so easy to slide the car around the tight left turn even at low speeds

Brings back fond memories - I really loved my track day at Hockenheim

Amazing pictures blueflame. I specially like pic #3 with the gloves and the helmet. It sort of tells a story in a single shot.

    Thanks for sharing.

Have you seen that idiot with the silver 911 at 00:31? He knows there is something wrong but he still passes the car in front of him. Dumb, dumb, dumb... Smiley
