    Re: Collected my GTS today

We've all seen the photos of the Carrera GTS online. I haven't visited an OPC to see one yet.

However, yesterday evening, as I was walking home from work, I saw a Carrara White Carrera GTS with black centre lock wheels and red brake calipers. It looked the business

It was waiting at a traffic light while I was walking past it on the pavement. And then when the lights turned green, the PSE made a gorgeous sound - at low revs it sounded every bit as good as the PSE on my 997.1 C2S  And in a flash, it was gone - all I could hear was the sound of the exhaust in the distance

As much as I like your new GTS, I think I'm more jealous that you've been on a golf course recently! It's been around 4 months for me. Smiley

    Are you currently really there?

Joe..you have to get your priorities right...!

4 months off a golf course is unforgivable... your game will suffer as a result and your handicap will remain the same...meaning you will lose money!  Not a choice in my book!

Get out there and sod the consequences... Smiley

    Re: Collected my GTS today

Finally I've reached break-in mileage and yesterday, for the first time, I took the GTS to 'full chat'..

Wow, it's the fastest thing I've ever driven... on a public road..  I thought the Turbo would have been a definite license-loser, but I'm going to have to be very careful that the GTS doesn't turn into one!!

Hit the red-line in 2nd, 3rd and 4th, the PSE's howling scream is nothing short of incredible, into 5th and, before I could look at the speedo, I was doing 145mph...and backed off smartish!   That's without even trying, so I guess I'm never going to realise the car's full potential unless I take her to a track.. preferably with a longish straight!

I'm taking her to "The Evo Triangle" today to get a better impression of performance/handling..

    This car really rocks..

Just watch out for the odd Renault Espace with the flowers all over it pulling into the outside lane when your doing 180, then deciding not to pull in front of you.  Meanwhile you've shrugged of 100mph in the blink of an eyelid and stood the car on it's nose a la pirouette styley. Smiley

    Re: Collected my GTS today

Yesterday I drove back home from Austria and I had the "honor" to drive behind and next to various cars from all over Europe. One thing is for sure, tourists from Belgium and Lithuania are the worst, they pass you on the right at full speed (which is illegal in Germany) and switch to your lane just one meter in front of you (they don't seem to understand that at 160 kph, a certain safety distance to the car in front of me is necessary ).

Or the other way around, cars from France and Holland not really understanding that in Germany, there is no general speed limit. So when the Autobahn is empty ahead of you, you are required to change to the right lane. It is the law in Germany.

    Re: Collected my GTS today

Went to the "Triangle" today and even though it was a Sunday and the weather was glorious and it got a bit crowded we still had a great time.

The GTS corners well with a hint of under-steer, definitely no over-steer!  I'm still not as confident with it yet as I was with my previous car.  Didn't get many chances to throw it at a bend but, when I did, the car behaved itself, albeit perhaps a bit too well - no tail-play which I used to enjoy!  That could be due to the suspension set-up, the tyres, or maybe I just didn't push it hard enough just yet?  Acceleration between bends is fantastic - I stayed in Sport Plus manual-mode and must say I've become a big fan of PDK.

Will be going again during the week when, hopefully, there will be less 'company.'

Took a few photos on the way back - nearing Ruthin...

Very familiar roads, what a blast it must be with such a car.

If I were you I'd have a specialist alter the geometry off the car to dial out some understeer, geo usually makes a big difference on 911's and I assume the non-GT 911's are set up a little conservatively?

Not too sure about this Frank?  Would it have any affect on the warranty?

To be honest the car feels pretty much neutral as it is and I think, as I get more used to it, it'll probably be fine.  I'll bear it in mind though.... thanks..Smiley

I would be surprised if this is deemed to affect the warranty - adjusting suspension geometry settings is quite normal Smiley

But, I think you don't need to adjust things just now - I would give it some time to get used to it and then decide if you need to do this according to your expected type of usage Smiley

    Re: Collected my GTS today

    @ John H,

Since the GTS has the wider body, maybe you simply need to turn the wheel more?

    Also worth checking tire pressures.

    Re: Collected my GTS today

HMT - Tyre pressures checked daily via TPM (Front 34psi Rear 37psi) as per manual for partial load.  Also checked physically at each re-fuelling.

I think you're right about the wider body needing extra wheel turn though I'm not quite sure why this should be..

    Re: Collected my GTS today

Just a thought;  you are not driving around the bends hard enough to activate PSM are you ? This will injuce understeer by applying brake to the outside front wheel on the bend when the car is on the verge of oversteer.

Can feel it all the time when i drive my GT3 hard into bends, but not ventured into the realms of turning SC off yet on the public roads !!! On track yes as the pads burn out to quickly.

When you are confident and the weather is good switch it off and try it. I bet it will not understeer then !!!

If it is not PSM, then the car has been set to give a little understeer as most car makers do these days. Understeer is easier to control than oversteer and hence dialed in by most car makers . Can be easily fixed with a geo set up, but i would leave it alone if the car is for road use.

My GT3 has a lot of negative camber dialed in from the factory, which makes it great for leaning on the tyres when going around bends. The downside is my rear tyres wear heavy on the inner edges if i do a lot of straight motorway driving (Cups only lasted 2800 miles on the road !)

Chris - I don't think it's that as I'm not carrying as much speed into bends as I was with the C2S....yet!  It's early days as I've only just completed break-in.

I now tend to brake harder before going in but still accelerate about the same coming out.  The difference is that no steering correction is required with the GTS as it was with the C2S.  I've never turned PSM off on a public road.  Under-steer is mild but noticeable by comparison.  I'm going to try faster entry next time but will take it gradually as it is a public road after all and I'm not sure, at this stage, just how much correction will be required in Sport Plus mode if over-steer kicks in.

It'll be fun getting it right...Smiley

    Re: Collected my GTS today

    Just a quick up-date...

Have now covered 2500 miles and the GTS is getting stronger by the day.

Tried launch control and clocked 0 - 60mph in 3.7 secs..

The oil level has dropped one bar but still haven't added any oil from new!!

Just started using kick-down for 'tight' overtaking - unbelievable acceleration to the red-line and imperceptible up-changes even then..   Not missing a stick shift in the least...

BTW - What's happened to our other GTS owners (Nick & Doug)...
