    Well, I'm still open for both cars really, altho I'm leaning towards Porsche more an more again. I'm gonna wait for the official specs/pics of the 997TT whatsoever. Early January I will test drive a MY06 Gallardo so that will be a diciding factor as well. On top of that we have the Brussels car show between the 12th-22nd of January so I can take a last good look of both cars. Decisions decisions

    However, I do believe that Porsche is limited by their own marketing: 997 cannot be faster than 997TT, and 997TT cannot be faster than a Carrera GT.

    Oh no, not that **** again. The Z06 probably did 7:42 - but only in the dreams of the GM marketing department. Do not let them fool you.

    Maybe. . .yet, the 911Turbo has been and still can be the "King" of Porsche's, the CGT is a limited-production car, the 911Turbo in all its iterations can still be on top without damaging P's marketing plans, including from 997 to 998, well after the CGT is long gone.

    I dont know what you are talking about.
    If the new Turbo is less than 500hp i am not going to give so much money just to have the new 911 model.
    I dont care. I will cancel my preorder and buy a 996 Turbo or GT2 with half the money and tune it to 550hp with no problems.


    Why to give so much money? for a car that in 2007 is going to be produced with DSG GEARBOX ?!

    That may be your opinion, but for me, as long as the performance is there, the 997TT(S) is in my sights. If the car can do 200 mph, beat an F430 and a Z06 and deliver awesome performance, I really don't care whether the specs say 480 or 580 HP.

    Personally I dont care about the declared numbers as long as the performance is there, as crash says. but I certainly wouldnt mind 500HP. nonetheless I think that the looming arrival of the TTS with PDK (DSG), probably within a year after the appearance of the TT is a good reason for me not to buy now. just check what happens with residual values of non F1 Ferraris or non egear in Lamborghinis. not a great motivation to buy a new TT...

    Every year, there is something new from Porsche, if it is a completely new model or a new option. If you're waiting one year for the DSG, you may be lucky. But another year later, you may find that the powerkit is available and another year later maybe a Turbo RS or whatever.

    Waiting makes sense only from one point of view: sh.t happens, especially with new cars. So if I'm unlucky, I'm going to have some problems with my new 997 Turbo. But if I'm lucky and the car is OK (like my first 996 Turbo), I'm going to have all that fun one year earlier than some of you guys. All decisions have pros and cons.

    It is nice to have such fantasies but I doubt it.
    If the 997 Turbo hits 7:45 with street tires, this would be great. Actually any time below 7:50 would be great with street tires.

    I agree that the 911 Turbo is THE Porsche sportscar but there must be some distance left to the GT2 and Carrera GT.
    Weight is also essential.

    Indeed, no matter what the peak HP numbers are, if your review of the 997TT is so overwhelmingly positive, I will probably "give in" and tell my dealer I can't take it any longer, and I'll go for a "base" Turbo.

    IMHO, the Turbo has never been a sportscar - it's always been a very fast Lux/GT car (even in 1976)

    Porsche needs to understand that the new benchmark is the new Z06 and that its new Turbo must be able to beat that car around the Nur. unless it does that...Porsche has lost its way.

    Grant, there are three categories:
    1. racecars
    2. sportcars
    3. grandtourer

    A grandtourer would be the Aston Martin Vanquish or the Mercedes SL. A racecar would be the Porsche GT3 RS. A sportscar would be the 911 Turbo.

    Ok - I see what you mean. But, I would consider the GT3 Cup a racecar, a CGT, GT2, GT3 or GT3RS (street version) a sports car, and a Turbo a grandtourer

    I give the Turbo its own classification - Sports GT.

    The 996TT didnt have the cat like reflexes of a Ferrari F360 or a GT3. It did have the speed and more comfort, but not the RAW sturm and drang feeling of the GT2.

    Whatever you wanna call it, expect to pay more for it. The VTG development for the Turbo could not have been cheap to do.

    How do I picture myself the PERFECT 997 Turbo? Simple:
    520 HP.
    Same weight as 996 Turbo.
    Shorter gear ratio (top speed not that important).
    Top Speed: 320 kph (should be enough).
    0-100 kph: 3.8 seconds
    0-200 kph: 11.5 seconds
    0-300 kph: 28 seconds
    Nordschleife: under 7 min 50 sec
    Hockenheim Kleiner Ring: under 1 min 12.5 sec
    (street tires)

    If you don't offer this 997 Turbo, people will be disappointed. Other options will open up, the 911 Turbo "myth" will loose it's taste of sweetness.
    It would be the worst marketing scheme ever.

    Turbo S PDK is way much faster than the car you asked so Porsche gave even more, and people are still not happy...it´s called human nature  Smiley
