Hey Ferdie, I will definitely tell you more! But to be honest, it was October and since then I have driven so many vehicles on track that I have lost the spirit of the moment in terms of explaining nuances. Suffice to say, that the entire range defies their dimensions and kerb weight. I recently drove rather fast with Dr. Ulrich Eichhorn, Bentley develop engineer extraordinaire in the GT.
Here is a pick of me crapping my pants at high speed in the GT with the good Doctor:
:
What a lovely guy; he explained so much about the last few years of handling and suspension setup on the Bentleys to me. I really think only two true saloons have got their yaw and pivotal centre right. The Bentley range and the Panamera. No one else comes close to being able to shift the pivotal centre so drastically and brilliantly towards the front of the car by dialling in the dynamic handling characteristics on the damper setting.
The new Continental GT really is a wonderful vehicle. At high speed I was able to really get the feeling the pivotal centre was right under my bottom! It also makes the world of difference to rear passenger comfort - no nausea if the pivotal centre drops back far enough! On track you can really feel the limits of these settings.
In fact, I have been meaning to write that Ulrich Eichhorn story up too, but alas, time is just non existent. I barely get the chance to post anything up or even visit rennteam that much these days! In the last 4 days I have tested two new vehicles here in Oman - the new RAM 1500 5.7hemi was one of them, and on Tuesday I am getting the new Golf R for an extended test. On Wednesday night I fly back to Yas to get behind the wheel of a 599XX and FXX!!!!! I am really excited about that! I will definitely make the effort to post up a thorough breakdown of that experience!
I will also try to post up the RAM review in the next few days, if time permits. And I promise to give you a real insiders view of the FXX!
