    2012 Porsche 991 Carrera testing in Germany...

     

    Our friends at GT3000 spotted two new Porsche 911 991 Carrera mule’s being tested on the German Highways today.

    Porsche is planning to use updated versions of the 911’s 3.6 and 3.8 liter flat sixes in the new 991 series sports cars. They will also feature front and rear LED lights as standard, integrated torque vectoring system on all four-wheel-drive models and a faster-acting limited-slip differential on rear-drive 911s.

    The next generation Porsche 911 also known as the 998 will be called the 991. The upgraded sports car will make its official debut somewhere at the end of 2011. We should see the large variety of versions on the roads by 2012/2013.

    the wing looks wider from front to rear and perhaps that's why it was posted as the "998 turbo"

    what's the "integrated torque vectoring system" mean and how is it different than other 4 wheel drive models?

    "torque vectoring" is actually a system that applies light brake pressure onto the inside wheel during cornering so that there is a slight "pivot" effect. Its not actually a reduction of motor output to that wheel or a increase of torque to the outer wheel.

    You might see that combined with thier new camber control of the wheels in cornering,( the tyre will have a better footprint than otherwise)

    And that combined with their new sway bar system that adjusts itself in the corners under load also.

    Mix the three above with the Audi developed shock absorber system that alters shock resistance and rebound rates for each corner of the car when under load in cornering by "reading" the other sides loading data in real time.

    Voila! You have a new list of new and not inexpensive Porsche options!

    Some are already standard on Audi RS models.

    With less weight and suspension advances the 991 will likely be the leader in handling for gt/sports cars.

    wouldn't bracking the inside wheel actualy give power to the otside wheel trough the diferential, from my understanding of the diff it givs power to where there is least reasistance

    It's combined with a mechanical LSD differential as on the 997.2 Turbo.

    The main feature of the torque vectoring is that it locks the wheel proactively (through relative rear wheel speed calculation, I think) rather than after a rear wheel slips for little.

    wow... this is the clearest view of the rear lights so far I've seen.... seems there is a distance between the base of the lights to the bumper line... awesome!!

    Best vid we have seen so fare and a very promising look at the 991. But what about the exhaust sound? So fare as we can hear it in the vid it isn't a noticeable improvement. Maybe they still improve the design before launch...

    A friend of mine spoke with the dealer today.The dealer said that it's not possible to make an pre-order for 991,because there is still no official details about the 991 and there is no official launch date.
