Haha Xandi, seems like Kreso once more was able to take a peek at something we aren't allowed to see yet.

Kreso, am I wrong when I say that the lights will resemble those of the 993 and the 997; more or less round when seen from direct front, but tilted a bit backward so they are in essence ovals?

Just this... Auto Bild renderings are very, very close to real thing. New tech means full LEDs maybe...

Knowing porsche, they will hold this back for the 991 FL i presumeSmiley

These are the new pictures while 991 refueling.  One thing that got my attention and need confirmation from our European members is:

In the U.S. the green nozzle indicates Diesel fuel, is it the same in Europe ?

Could this be a TDI ?

Next Porsche 911 - new spy pics...

    (28 January 2011)

These scoop pictures reveal development of the next-generation Porsche 911 has switched to the Arctic Circle ahead of its official launch at this year’s Frankfurt motor show.

Codenamed 991, the heavily re-engineered coupé and cabriolet are set to go on sale in the UK in October. They will get freshened exterior styling, a higher-quality interior, more powerful yet highly fuel-efficient six-cylinder boxer engines, sharpened dynamics and a greater list of high-end options.

As with today’s 911, the front-end structure, complete with its MacPherson strut suspension, has been designed to be shared with the Boxster, a third-generation model of which is due to reach the UK in March 2012. The rear end, with its reworked multi-link suspension, remains largely unique, and the steering uses an electro-mechanical set-up.

The new car is marginally longer and wider than the existing 911 but the basic silhouette remains largely unchanged, including the screen angles and length of the front and rear overhangs. The biggest change is the widened wings, which have been designed to accept wheels up to 20 inches in diameter.

Again, there are no major changes to the 911’s styling. Headlamps and tail-lights have been altered slightly and given new LED graphics, while the exterior mirror housings now sit outboard on the doors rather than in the blanked-off quarter panel at the base of the A-pillar.

The engine line-up is based around upgraded versions of Porsche’s six-cylinder, direct injection petrol unit, boasting incremental increases in power and torque and slight reductions in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

When UK sales get under way, there will be a 3.6-litre engine with 365bhp and 295lb ft in the Carrera. It will be joined from the outset by a revised 3.8-litre powerplant delivering 415bhp and 325lb ft in the Carrera S.

Both engines will come with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard; the seven-speed PDK dual-clutch ’box is an option, with shift paddles behind the wheel. Automatic stop-start and a brake recuperation system are also planned, helping to provide a claimed 12 per cent gain in city driving economy for the rear-drive Carrera and Carrera S.

Further variants will follow in time, including more powerful versions of the Turbo, GT3 and GT2.

Gotta love it when Porsche is the only one who take their 'sports car' to the snow for testing.

Real all-season all-weather practical sports car. No one else comes close.

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

I have to say that I'm liking the 991 design in the spyshots even more than I did the 997 spyshots in its time, so I'm really looking foward to seeing it without any camo then, with the new rear led lights design, front fascia, nice wheels, etc then it will be impressive IMO.

As much as I have criticised Porsche's design work (Cayenne, Panamera, some 997 details, etc) I think Porsche is nailing the 991 IMO Smiley They could make it ugly (ex:996.1) and I would still buy it if they keep improving the performance and keep 911 character, but they have got my attention for sure design wise more than ever!

In my case I will probaly wait a year after its introduced to make the switch to the 991, after all the quirks are ironed out, all the optional equipment is available from factory, see that there are no mayor problems, more model versions to choose from (GTS?) etc so I won't be one of the first ones though Smiley

Do you know how many Americans go to Europe and get this screwed, ending up dumping a gallon or so of diesel in their gas engined rental before they realize their error! In America it's the exact opposite Black (or Red) Handle = Gasoline. Green Handle = Diesel.

Deep Dive: Porsche takes control of sports car development at VW Group...

    (13 January 2011)

A Lamborghini Gallardo developed by Porsche? How about a Stuttgart-engineered Audi R8? It could happen under a new plan that puts Porsche in charge of sports car development for all Volkswagen Group brands.

The decision comes as part of VW Group's overall plan to streamline its brand and engineering structure. Although Porsche is the newest member of the family, its expertise in sports car engineering apparently made it the natural choice to develop a common components set for the Group's many sports cars.

In the near term, the decision will have little impact. After all, the next 911 and the second-generation Boxster/Cayman are virtually complete, the follow-ups to the R8/Gallardo/Murcielago are also past their freeze points, and project Mimo -- better known as Audi R5/VW Blue Sport/Porsche 550 (previously rumored to be named 356) -- has only recently been transferred to Porsche.

Looking farther out, creating a common DNA for all these models and for others not yet mentioned here is a huge challenge for the Porsche engineers under their new chief Wolfgang Hatz, who used to be the number-one engine guy at VW. The biggest potential stumbling block is the sheer complexity of the future sports car range for which MSS, as the sports car components set is called, must act as an umbrella. In an ideal world, this multifaceted work-in-progress should yield the following models:

VW Blue Sport, Audi R5, Porsche 550. The Porsche version will be positioned under the Boxster/Cayman and will be powered by a four-cylinder boxer engine, likely a turbocharged 1.9-liter good for some 210 hp and 215 lb-ft of torque. Audi will likely use a five-cylinder and shoot for a (higher) price somewhere between that of the TT and the R8. The VW version will almost certainly use a 180-hp four-cylinder and will incorporate parts from mainstream VWs in an effort to keep the costs down.

Next Boxster/Cayman/911 (2018/19). The current Cayman/Boxster, due in 2011 and 2012, won't be part of the MSS program but may be integrated to some degree during the mid-cycle refreshing in 2016.

High-end Porsche sports car to be positioned between the 911 and the upcoming 918, internally dubbed New V8 GT. This is the hottest project the Weissach wizards currently have up their sleeves. It could have much in common with the next R8 and Gallardo.

Follow-ups to the R8/Gallardo/Aventador, which are still far off but need to be integrated before 2020.

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

Guys - yesterday I had an 991 ahead of me which left the Autobahn for the rest area.

First observation - the car is incredibly fast. I observed this already a year ago as I had another car ahead of me, but again, the acceleration seems to be really powerful.

Second observation - I clearly could see the rear lights (I was standing in front of it, but the driver disturbed me while I was taking a photo :). Underneath the camo, I could see rear lights which looked a bit holistic, just like on the 918 prototype. They are a bit slimmer as on the 997, but same width I would say. Basic shape is more or less like on the 997, but apprx. 2 cm slimmer.

Third observation - the inside of the car looks only for people like us different to the current car. Yes - the middle tunnel goes upwards, but it is as small as it is today. And by far not that high as in the Cayenne, Carrera GT or Panamera. It seemed that the car had a standard equipment as it looked like a basic VW Golf and not special at all.

By the way - the driver was really attacking and unfriendly as I wanted to have a chat and pictures.

I made many shots, but they all dont tell anything (Blackberry and it was night). But at least this inside pictures shows a bit:

Thanks Boxster Coupe GTS for the comparisson. On the older and much more clear shots I cant see the Carrera Logo Display in the cockpit! Seems they changed that. Also - the car yesterday was a manual shift!

The interior I watched really quit for a while and it looked boring. I guess it was because of its mouse-grey color and the dark night!
