    997 "Black Edition"

Obviously the PAG will offer yet another "special version" of the 997.

It's called "Black Edition", since the car can only be ordered in black or basalt.

It will only be available for the standard Carrera as Coupé or Cab and there will be three configurations available, which will cost 1.400, 9.300 or 9.500 Euro. All configurations offer a nice discount off of buying every option separately.

For further details see the pic. Smiley

Black Edition? The name just screams AMG ...

For another 2000 Euros you can get the "Black Edition" in non-black........

    Re: 997 "Black Edition"

Who would buy now and 997 anyway - never understood this.

Seeing that option list I even more cant understand -

    • black dials (what the heck... this is non S-Standard)....
    • Standard seats (ok - what is special about that) ....
    • 911 letters at the back (grmpf... doesnt cost a cent to build)...
    • FloorMats (wow.. simply stunning)
    • Tempostat (call it cruise and call it why do we have to talk about this, every Hyundai has that)

For me clear to see this is a piggy bank car, build for simplicity and a cheap way to enter the 911 level - which leads back to the question who wants to buy that!

There were massive incentives on 997 models in the UK in December John. I was offered a couple of new cars with nearly 14% off if I bought thecar before the 29th.

    Re: 997 "Black Edition"

That was December Iain (pre-vat and all that) - RC is talking about now, January.

I have no doubt that dealers will offer you sweeteners as they would view you as a very attractive prospect for future business...

Some lease offers are interesting (997 lease for 12 months, switch to 991 lease) and rebates can be huge over here in Germany, especially on inventory cars.

    Re: 997 "Black Edition"

I realise that leasing a car is favoured by many, often for very good reasons that make a lot of sense.

Personally, however, I tried it once and didn't like it - it felt as though I didn't actually own the car.  Somehow the connection wasn't right... difficult to explain...

    Re: 997 "Black Edition"

Porsche has changed their leasing residuals (at least in NA,not sure about ROW) to reflect the actual value of the cars they were getting back. I guess they were taking a bath on lease returns so now they are passing those losses onto the consumer. My 4 year lease had a 50% residual, while now they are only offering ~35% for the same term. It makes leasing less attractive.

I know exactly what you're saying John. If you lease a car, it's just like buying a house with a mortgage. The lender is the 'real' owner till the asset is fully paid for.

And this affects how you feel about the car - that it isn't really yours ... yet.

The secret is a km/mileage lease. I only lease my car(s) for a certain km/mileage figure and a certain time frame, no residual value here to worry about. I know that some lease rates have gone up due to the changed residual value but BMW for example has still some very attractive offers. Porsche is a different story but sometimes one can get lucky to find a special lease offer from dealers and/or Porsche Financial.

Right now I'm playing around with two thoughts:

    1. buying my next Porsche and getting one of the top models like GT2/Turbo (hence: keeping it at least 6 years, way into the next model generation)

    2. leasing a less expensive model for three years and getting a new one after the lease ends.

Not sure what to do but my experience with leases has been pretty positive so far.

This is what i do with the 997,and if all goes well i whant to do with the 991,taking the GT2 and stay with it till the top models of the 992Smiley

My 997 Turbo has 4  and half years,i love it like the first day and i have no problem waiting with it the 991TT or GT2.

    Re: 997 "Black Edition"

I'd love to hear of any "fantastic" leasing deals on Porsche or BMW in UK.

John H - I'm with you on that - difficult to explain, but different to the mortgage scenario. More like renting....

My 997.1 is due 6 yr service next month - I wonder if OPC will extend the same discount as last time?

    Re: 997 "Black Edition"

There are great deals on the GTS right now in the UK. The leases have very high guaranteed residual values through Porsche Financial Services and of course the GTS is already great value for money compared to a C2S.  There are unsold cars around with good specs with a choice of colours. I haven't tried hard so 'fantastic' might take a bit more work :)

If you want a 997 I can't see there being a better time if there's a physical car. Its probably getting late to order one now. The big groups have access to more cars so may be a good place to go. There are also some pre-registered December 2010 cars around with deals on them too.
