The rear keps looking better and better IMO. Very sexy hip and stance.

The rear lights due have a resemblance to the 918 if you imagine the camo off and how the led colors are distributed.

In this car in the pic there is no separate piece at the back of the rrof were the roof meets the read windshield, previos cars had the last 10-20cm of roof seperated like if it were an active spoiler or something.

Great to see your comments, RC!  Always appreciate your insight!!  Thank you!

it's interesting that sales are starting so late -- i believe the 997 and 996 were launched springtime and given the following model year attribution (at least here in the states if i'm not mistaken)

    Porsche

Codenamed 991, the next generation of 911 will make its public debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September, although sales are likely to start in early 2012.

RC Could Porsche be taking the same approach as they did with the Cayman S?  Dealers received one car three months before the formal launch. They were not permitted to display it on the showroom floor but rather in the garage area. Nor could they conduct test drives.  If this is the case, we could see cars appearing in late spring early summer. I hope that is the case versus the Carrera GTS, where dealers are just starting to see cars in the US after its September launch.

Well just like always with the 911, the new Carrera will probably run alongside the 997s for a bit until more models slowly fade out the 997. Of course the 997 is introduced straight as Carrera and Carrera S.

    RC:

Take a look at the 918 RSR and you have a good idea of how the tail lights are going to look alike on the 991.

That is the single best piece of news I've read on this thread since it started. The fact that this tail light design makes it into the 991 makes me extremely optimistic on the overall design and very eager to see it.

    Carlos,
I have a feeling that thhat has to do with yes or no sunroof... My guess is that that last spoiler-ish thing at the aft section of the roofline is an aerodynamic aid foor cars with a sunroof, this for cars without a sunroof it is not there.

    RC:

Take a look at the 918 RSR and you have a good idea of how the tail lights are going to look alike on the 991. The headlights don't get an extreme shape, they stay almost classic, similar to the 997.

What is actually very nice about the 991, design-wise, are the proportions front and rear. They are much more accentuated than on the current 997, making the 911 look more masculine, more like a street machine. I just love it.

It won't be long until Porsche is going to unveil the 991...in a way or another.

Fingers crossed: March March March March March March March March March March...

    Please let it be March.

I wonder if the two dots below give away the real shape of the tail lights.

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Thread Closed

    Neunelf,

I think what we're looking at here is a rear light like the image below, but there is tape over it with holes in random areas, and over that is solid tape to mask the outlines of the rear light cluster. Therefore, it may look like two dots, but it will look like a horizontal line when the tape is removed

That would be interesting; but I don't believe that's the case. I think the longitudinal ovoid masks are part of the tail light design itself. I find it hard to believe that they would take the light assembly apart to camouflage the actual design, and destroy the integrity of the assembly this late in the testing process.

The different lengths of these masks are odd looking, I must say. We'll have to wait and see...

I fInd it hard to believe that the engine power will be less than the current X51 kit. That would break the usual pattern being in between X51 and GT3 of the previous model. Little incentive for anyone with the 997.2 X51 or GTS to upgrade to the 991. Not very Porsche-like.

    My bet is 410-420HP.

Agree..The GTS is at 408HP so would think it would be at least 410HP.

Agree, unless at less HP Porsche could still get the 991 to perform quicker than the 408 on the GTS.

That only makes sense considering the weight stays the same. Let us hope it loses some weight so it wouldn't need the extra horses? Smiley

I like your approach on the headlights

Maybe with the correct proportions with would be great to see the 991 headlights similar to the 918

pjd  thanks for your input - believe this looks better .  For long I was convinced that only classic 911 lights would be appropriate -  now I am very much towards this 918 style .   (click to enlarge )

I think that the round headlights are an iconic item on the 911 and should not be changed, nor shared with any other Porsche model of the lineup. Lets not forget the 996 headlights "experiment", I don't think they will make that mistake twice.
