    yes... Smiley

That doesn't mean simply a bigger wing will do a better job or the 997 one does not do the job.  I found it very hard to believe Porsche doesn't put a bigger on 997 if it has a functional need.

Precisely - and if the 991 requires extra down-force due to increased performance then where does that leave the 997 GTS?

There are cases when the 997could do with more high speed stability.

Example continuous open curves at high speeds (185km/h+)  especially with strong winds.

If I were in Germany doing 230+km/h as a matter of routine for long periods I would have ordered  the Aerokit for the 911.

Funny that all of a sudden many come out saying they do not like the 997 spoiler design. That design has been in the 911 series since the 964 at least. So much for 911 faithful! :)

What is all the fuzz about, the 991 spoiler will look amazing. Much more sophisticated and integrated into the design. I'm pretty sure the accordion design is gone too. It's a 911, so form-follows-function!

To be fair, the carrera's rear wing is not really part of the classic 911 shape since (1) its only seen when its up at higher speeds, so most of the time its down and (2) this integrated wing is only in the carrera's, there are other 911 variants that do not have it and are still every bit a 911. Its not like its classic fast back desing or frog lights for example.

Its not hard to argue that the carrera has always been more beautiful when the rear wing is down, the wing up was a compromise in exchange for reducing lift and increased cooling, but was never a positive design element. It was a form follows function kind of deal. So being faithfull to the 911 has little to do with liking the Carrera's integrated rear wing when its up.

Now with the 991it will likely improve aerodinamics but its the first radical change in its desing since it was introduced in the 964, so there is now a posibility that the new rear wing will also improve on the aesthetic part as well... or maybe not. Thats still to be decided until we see it in person, at least for me. But since the previous was no beauty when it was up, its very posible, that is why the subject of the wing now comes up.

actuallly the accordion style came out only in the 996 , worst 911 design ever and continued till this time.

I didn´t even want to mention on my first post about the 991 wing design, but now that you mention it,  this was exactly the car that I thought when I saw 991 wing Smiley enought said.

The bellows screen was added in the 996 but the spoiler design precedes it. That screen makes a lot of sense shielding the mechanism from trapping vacuum-sucked dirt.

And it is not a wing... it is a spoiler to mitigate/reduce lift.

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Thread Closed

Just my opinion, i think the 964-993 rear spoilers have the best look when they deploy!!!! by far but I do love all of them just the 993 is my favorite to date.

Re: Porsche 991 GT3 to include GT1 motorsport engine... Thread Closed

Someone mentioned above the downforce Ferrari builds into the body without the use of a wing or moveable spoiler. To that extent, I've always admired the design of 911 Turbo spoilers of the 996 and 997. They're subtle, integrated and effective without making the kind of statement made by the earlier Turbos, although I've always loved the "melted" look of the 993 Turbo tail.

In my mind, the 991 tail we seem to be seeing is more in line with the thinking on the Turbo, and I find it a good design solution.

I know the turbo has a moveable wing, but I like the way it integrates, as on the  996 below.

    30911-img_1084.jpg

The 997 improves on it, I think.

    2010_porsche_911_turbo_new_press_001.jpg

But I still melt over the 993.

    huh!... What a coincidence!

Sorry to be off-topic, but I'll just answer the questions and then shut up.

My 996TT now just passed 370'000 km. Due to a design-fault from Porsche (I'll spare you the details...), it went into surgery and had a complete engine rebuild 2 years ago. After this very nicely done rebuild (thanks Sportec!), it came out of the dyno with 591 hp and 823 Nm (607 lb ft). The acceleration is just brutal, especially impressive above 250 km/h.

Voilà. Thanks for the welcome, guys!

When you posted that picture, I grabbed it because it was such a great pic.

Great car, too. And since no one argued with my design points, I'll take that as solid agreement!

One rebuild of the second engine, yeah...

And yes, there's a design fault in the engine of the 996TT and 997TT (maybe it's been fixed now, dunno) that can have quite heavy consequences. But that's OT.

Would be most interested to know what this design fault is? Can you make a new post with this info? I think many of us here would like to know. Thanks in advance.

Just now I saw an AUDI A5. That is'nt anything special, but is it a coincidence, how similar are the design details between Audi and Porsche?
Maybe I'm wrong and that's only the current trend in general?
