First Update:
Had the car for a week now. Coming from a Cayman S, the 911 Turbo S is a completely different animal. I never driven a P turbo before so at least for the first 48 hours and while still in a break in period takes some to get used to. Dont get me wrong, this car is easy to drive in normal mode, in fact its so smooth (maybe too normal?). The handling is superb, feels like a mid engine, razor sharp steering, no compromise compared to my Cayman. I fact, the interior feel is similar. But since I have not pushed it hard, I cant say its a toss up. I need more time to evaluate this.
OK, the power. What can I say. Press the sport button and the car morphs. There is some lag (coming from a non turbo you feel it), but the thrust you get after a second or so is out of this world. Its like a rope pulling you hard. Your smiles dissipate and your cheeck turns to the side. You dont know whether to giggle, cry or crap. Or all the above. Its gets worse if you press the allmighty sport plus. The demonic button. Since I cant get to red line yet, its goes so fast that you need a surgeon foot to control the throttle. It bothers me that there is a break in period (they say 2000 miles @ less than 5K rpm?), I mean, you are paying $$$ for a super car but you cant have sex till marriage WTF ?
The car is a head turner. Specially from other turbo non S owners here in Florida. Sure there are hundreds of P cars around, but the fact that its a cabrio may also contribute. Its so bright red and the 2 tone color interior make the car stand out.
Today I saw a 458 Italia, I followed the guy behind for a bit, what a nice car. I gave him thumbs up, he smiled, but he did not push it as I wished he had did. Of course I was not going to race a 458, didnt stand a chance LOL
The sound: The car when pushed, the exhaust note changes day to night (maybe a restrictor is released, flap opens or something) and you hear a JET engine. I am not kidding, the car sounds like its going to take off ! ... Nice deep, vaccum sucking all the air from 2 square miles. You go into warp speed.
The fun you get from this roller coaster ride, right there, makes the car 110% fun and money well spent. Now I understand all the hype about a Turbo car.
My other choice of car was an F430, but I am so glad I chose this car. I could have paid much less for a 07 F430 spyder, other than its looks and somewhat confined cockpit, this car is superior in all aspects. I dont see how the new 991 turbo can be any faster, or even people wanting to tune this car. Unless there is a car capable of going 0-60 in much less than 2.5 seconds, i wonder if there is a significant gap. Its so fast that you need psychological help. The car is not meant for everybody. You need to be a seriously mature and responsible driver, because going fast is an understatement. Better play it in normal mode and leave the sport buttons for the track LOL
Electronics. Great BT, Navi, touchscreen is a nice addition, IPOD works as promised, overall a nice upgrade from the old PCM. The adaptive seats are fanstastic. They hold you like a glove.
The cars is now 300 miles old, 1700 hundred to go (or maybe not). Next week I plan to load the car and ship it home down south. For now enjoying the sunny Florida weather!
more to come...
