It can't sound much different than the current X5/X6 M. Maybe a little bit louder, maybe a little bit deeper but don't expect major changes. I still think that the current X5 M sound fits the M5 better than a SUV.

gonna miss the old V10, i think it was by far the BEST sounding sedan of all time. Slap an exhaust under the V10 and you have an absolute CGT like beast in terms of sound.
indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine.. I happen to like both :)

New info on the F10 M5...
I`m curious, the new M5 will have 2 option wheels?
Bimmerpost says that this (1st pic) are production wheels, but on the 2nd pic (below) are also diferent wheels. Will the new M5 have 2 option wheels from start of production?

As far as I heard, this is going to be the standard wheel, the other one...I don't know ?!
I'm more curious about two other things:
1. how much power does the M5 get ? Rumors indicated 580 HP but currently, I heard that 555 HP, same as X5/X6 M are back in the game for reliability and technical (exhaust sound !) reasons. Apparently BMW M GmbH has managed to slightly improve the exhaust sound by changing the exhaust flow but at the cost of power output.
2. how much will the new M5 weight ? First rumors indicated something way over 2 tons, which is too much in my opinion.
Also interesting: there were recently rumors that the M5 may get 4WD, optional or not.
A lot of questions but I guess we know more early next year. 
The new M5 needs to do 0-100 kph in at least 4.2 seconds and 0-200 kph in under 13 seconds, otherwise this car will not be competitive in the near future. I hope BMW realizes that.

I`m also curious about the wheight... The Bentley Continental GT has more then 575 hp but his wheight is more then 2,5 tons... that doesn`t help, at all, the handling...
580 hp it would be great but i hope that isn`t true (more then 2 tons)... if so, they are returning to the past...
I prefer less wheight over more power....
