    Re: new Camaro website up

Wow i like this new Mustang a lot. You know that im a fan of the somewhat understated Ford approach to the modern muscle car, but this thing seems to have potential. I really do hope they worked on the chassis and suspension.

It looks like it could end up looking a little like the Transformers 2 camaro, and thats not a bad thing  at all

A number on the camaro message board mentioned the bumblebee too. The speculation is the Z28 will have around 570hp and an improved interior.

    Re: new Camaro website up

I'm sorry the looks do NOTHING for me. Will drive one soon though to see if things are better under the bonnet.

Very cool!  Make sure to test drive the SS model, with the LS3 Smiley  In my opinion, that's the only one to go with!

From what I read, on previous generation camaros the RS package was more of a "racing package", but for this latest incarnation, the RS package is strictly for looks, and doesn't add anything performance-wise.

That being said, it does complement the looks of the SS quite well, though I would stay away from the ground effect package which adds panels at the bottom of all the car's sides (this is a separate item from the RS package).

You are right about value. But they are playing like Porsche using important names every time they turn around to grab a few more sales w/o really respecting the name properly.

BOSS Mustang is the  most important name there is in muscle cars. The late 60's Boss Mustangs are the most revered muscle cars that exist. Those models are still the cars people want 40 years later. Ford has used the Mach 1 name in the last 10 years, the Bullit name etc...  None of those cars will be long remembered. The BOSS should have exceptional numbers that will stand out 10 years later. The standard GT has 412hp and 390tq,  this Boss is rumored to have 440hp and 370tq - not special enough unless they plan to keep it around for few model years like they did in the 60's.

It should have numbers like 475hp/475tq and then Ford should make a limited edition BOSS 429 monster in a few years with 575hp and light to take on the ZR1. They also shold re-design the back end for this model and add some louvers.

The real BOSS     -    the 429

    ford-mustang-boss-429.jpg

the new Boss 302- good graphics but ass needs work and it's a little too smooth and the front bumper is a bit too big. Yeah they have to shrink the bumper and increase the black grilled radiator opening and add a hood scoop for the 429 version.

This are beautiful cars! I wouldnt mind to drive one of the vintage!

And again and again... if I would live in the US I would go for a new Camaro or Mustang!

    Re: new Camaro website up

Only problem is that for $38k, add another $5-6k and you can get a base Corvette which will TEAR any Camaro/Mustang/Charger up in both strait line, stopping, and handling.  Remember these retro cars are ALL like 4000lb.  Also being new, these will demand a bit of a premium (no big discounts), but you can walk into the same Chevy dealer and pick up a new 2011 Vette (436hp and only 3150lbs) for about $10k off list price and be able to eat any of these cars in any category (acceleration, braking, handling).  Or for that point, most any car under $100k

I just don't understand the price points.  Why pay $38k for a 4000lbs 430hp Camaro, when you can pay $40 (if that), and have a new 436hp Vette with true upper and lower A-Arms mounted to a real frame.  Makes absolutely no sense unless you simply like the style of the car and/or need back seats.

These cars were good values when they were $20k brand new.  These cars should not be higher than $30k tops for a V8 model.

I remember I bought a 1993 Mustang GT 5.0 fully loaded in 1993 for $19k.  Vette's at the time were still in the low'$40's.  Car makes no sense at $38k, but what the heck do I know.

    Re: new Camaro website up

I paid 10,200. when I ordered my Mustang GT from the factory in 86, so I agree with you about what has happened with prices.

However I think the performance is not that far apart especially for the new Mustang Boss with the laguna handling package or an SS that has had a little engine/suspension work.

But the bottom line is that the Camaro SS is a better looking car than a non ZR-1 corvette imo and many other people's too. And looks is the number 1 consideration in most decisions.

Performance is WAY off compared to a vette (don't fool yourself).  These cars are almost 1000lbs heavier than a Corvette and that makes all the difference in the world.  If you like the looks, I can't argue with that point, but no handling package is going to help this car touch a Corvette on a road course.

It's mantra is the 1/4 mile and it only does this in 13.0 seconds.  0-60 is 4.9 seconds, both are way off compared to a Vette.  Maybe this is more in line with an M3 or base 911.  A base vette will easily pull low 12 second times and 0-60 in 4 seconds flat all while pulling a solid 1G on the skid pad.

Don't get me wrong, I like both these cars, just don't understand GM's price points.  I always thought that is what killed these car originally (kids could no longer afford them).  These cars use to be targeted to the 20 somethings, but not many 20 somethings can afford a $38k car.

With that said, my 1993 5.0 was a great car and I have many fond memories.  It was cheap, fast, relaible, and easy to modify.

    MUSTANG BOSS LAGUNA SECA

Ford’s performance claims for the 2012 Boss 302 include cornering capability in excess of 1.0 g, shorter stopping distances than provided by the GT—even with its available brake upgrade—and a 155-mph top speed. Ford declined to provide acceleration figures, but the 302 should handily beat the 2011 Mustang GT’s marks of 4.6 Smileyseconds from standstill to 60 mph and 13.2 seconds through the quarter-mile at 109 mph.

Added up, the further improvements to Boss Laguna Seca result in the best-handling Mustang ever, with more than 1.03 g of lateral acceleration, Smileystopping distances shortened by three feet from 60 mph over Boss, 0-60 acceleration improvements of one tenth of a second, and an overall expected lap time improvement of one to two seconds over the standard Boss on a typical road course.

So Laguna Seca Boss should do 0-60 near 4.2 (revs to 7500)

    Re: new Camaro website up

The ZL1 has started deliveries to the first customers, the only thing missing so far are nice decal packages, I hope they have them

    a black one;

A few weeks back I saw a yellow Camaro SS a minute after seeing a ferrari California, and I have to say the camaro in yellow is the much better looking car. So far yellow is the color for a ZL1. These cars exemplify what the muscle car era was all about, LOUD and FUN.

The ZL1, though a little heavy has the handling, brakes, and power to do the job. It also looks a lot better than the mustang. The mustang is to tall, narrow, and long. They have to give it some more width and lower it some to get the agressive look back. For now Camaro rules.

    Re: new Camaro website up

I saw a ZL1 in Orlando at my hotel. The exhaust sound was nice but not even close (loudness, tone) to my C63 AMG Coupe PP. Weird. Even my son was disappointed, he really loves the new Camaro.

    Re: new Camaro website up

Have you been back to Orlando in the last 2 weeks? Because from what I can see they have only been shipping ZL1's since 3/31   http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4755109&postcount=24

Anyway, what I meant by LOUD was only half directed at the exhaust sound (which can be greatly improved in the aftermarket) I was also referring to the wild colors and color combinations that only look good on true muscle cars. Orange cars with white stickers, bright yellow cars with black stickers, candy apple green etc. ............................

AMG does make a nice exhaust sound straight from the factory, almost getting near the level of mine.Smiley
