Re: Lotus at Paris Auto Salon

I love the Elan.  I want to buy a 2+2 when my son is 5-6 so he can sit at the back, which is exactly when the Elan will be produced.  So if Lotus can raise it's quality standard (Evora quality is rubbish) then maybe a 911 will not be my default choice afterall!

Re: Lotus at Paris Auto Salon

Please, marques ??, most of you did not, do not know the history of Porsche. If a company makes a superior product and prices it appropriately, it will sell and a few years later that will be the image of the marque.

What about Audi and great the history of Auto Union - did that mean anything when audi was selling cheap boxes like the fox in the 70's? Or did the sticking gas pedal of the 80's come into anyones mind with the R8?

If Lotus produces these vehicles, they will be on top in 5 years.

Re: Lotus at Paris Auto Salon

I agree with racerx.  Look at Aston, sure it has great history, but would I have bought an Aston prior to Dr Bez running the show and bringing in great cars starting with AMV8?  No chance in hell!

My bad, you have it right, the history and image of an automobile company are meaningless when it comes to selling expensive sports cars.Smiley

I was thinking that but didn't bother to type it. Back in the mid 80's there was a guy who owned the AM of the era that looked like a cheap kit car with all the add-ons that I would see very often, lousy car - lagonda was no better. DB7 in the 90's was lousy also.

AM under Bez (ex 928 engineer) is a whole different company!

928 transformed Porsche from an family style assembler of parts into a top of the line luxury car producer. Most current buyers pretend that didn't happen.

    Love that new 991 interior!Smiley

Can't stop looking at the Elite.

Gorgeous design.  Perhaps the next Bond car?

Re: Lotus at Paris Auto Salon

    Wow...

My first impression was... holy crap! 6 new cars!!!
Looking at the pictures, it seems that he design team has taken sveral curves from different cars, Ferrari, Audi, Lamborghini I cansee, and moulded them into new, coherent designs. Fantastic job, as the cars look really nice.

Second impression: Wow, 6 new spotscars... is there a market for that? They'll be facing a very saturated market now, so I imagine that they chose the way of selling a little of a lot, rather than to bet on one horse.

Third impression: How the hell are they going to industrialize these concepts in such a short period? If you look at porsche, the moment that the first 996's hit the streets, the 997's were already under development... it takes a lot of time to completely industrialize a car concept, an to also create all the manufacturing capacities, etc.

This is where I see the biggest problems, because I don't think that these 6 cars are all based on the same platform. We'll see how this develops, but it is a dearing move to say the least!

+1. this new bond is nowhere near cool enough to pull that off.

Re: Lotus at Paris Auto Salon

The more i look at them the more i like them. I think their design team did an amazing job, the names sort of fit each of the concepts and there's many hidden design details that are really defined and thought about.

This could actually work, and given they have some obvious outside investments (think Petronas or something) they could afford such a remap.

indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine..  I happen to like both :)

Re: Lotus at Paris Auto Salon

Isn't both petronas and EON (Proton) predominantly owned by the Malaysian Govt? Proton can't fund it as itself is making losses. Petronas on the other hand makes double digit $b every year.

Re: Lotus at Paris Auto Salon

I tend to think of oil company and car company as complements.

Rather, a marketing expense write-off for oil companies.

Finally, some beautiful, modern looking new car designs. I am impressed. So tired of the weird-ugly-retro crap we've been stuck with for the last decade and a half. Something that gets one excited about cars again. Kudos.

Each car is so thouroghly detailed especially the lights front and rear. Amazing amount of top notch design work and also industrial fabrication. To do 1 body panel means the mold/form exists to do thousands. These cars are ready to go, not mock-ups or one-offs.

Lotus has really made a giant leap.

Re: Lotus at Paris Auto Salon

I'm back from Paris. The cars look gorgeous in real. I'm very impressed. The design team did a great job

Here's one photo I took of the Elite. It's very beautiful. Click on the pic to see it in bigger size.

Re: Lotus at Paris Auto Salon

I LOVE the Elan ... or is that Elanborghini? And the Elite.

I'm thrilled to see Lotus trying a little harder. I've always loved them but physically, I'm too tall to drive anything they've ever made. Too tall to drive a Cayman, for that matter.

But if Lotus were to be competitive with Porsches in price while delivering Lotus style handling, I'd be overjoyed to see two car companies focused on handling.

Assuming I could be comfortable behind the wheel, I would definitely be in the market.
