WOW     those are all very good looking cars, the Elan is just amazing. And in good lotus tradition they should all perform very well. I hope their plan works out and they can start turning a profit on these models.

Wow, this looks very very promising.

    Prices? Availability?

Re: Lotus at Paris Auto Salon

Thank you Gauss.  I have posted a link to this thread over on Lotustalk.com.  Hope you do not mind.  If so, I will take it down.

Re: Lotus at Paris Auto Salon

The Elan's spec is amazing, only 0.1 sec slower than the supercar Esprit in the century sprint ?? And it's a 2+2, but LIGHTER.

Btw who is Lotus chief designer ? What an amazing job he did, designing 5 cars more beautiful than most other cars on the show !

Re: Lotus at Paris Auto Salon

I wonder what the performance / engine specs are based off of, considering that likely no production versions of any of the cars exist.  Not sure how many test mules even exist.

Thanks! Wasn't he the one who penned the 458 as well ?

Re: Lotus at Paris Auto Salon

Wow im very impressed. I was probably too skeptical in all other Lotus threads reading about their expansion program. But boy oh boy have they done a good job. The lineup looks AMAZING and the performance figures of all new engines are impressive!! Well done, they found a design language that is modern, sleek and very Lotus. It's futuristic enough, yet also somehow very conservative. I love these. more pics.

indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine..  I happen to like both :)

I wasn't sure but after a small research his lineup is impressive. He was involved with the 430 Scud, 16M, 599XX, California, and finally the 458.

Re: Lotus at Paris Auto Salon

What a program !!! They really look good and interesting. But Bringing so many new cars at once into the market seems just a bit unbelievable. I wonder how many will finally go into production ? and will they keep the announced specs ? ( I am sprightly septic on the weight )

Is it Petronas ?  It is a huge financial risk to launch so many new cars at once.....they better have very solid backup, many companies  have  great plans .... but finally give up because of the costs. Here it seems a bit 'grandiose' to me...

Re: Lotus at Paris Auto Salon

First, I don't understand the commercial rationale. IMO this is the kind of ambitious plan that an already successful company would launch during an economic boom - not during the beginnings of a global economic recovery.

The only markets IMHO where this may pay off are Russia, China, India, the Middle East and parts of South America. The recovery in Europe and North America is expected to remain slow.

Second, this represents a major departure for Lotus. Lotus cars have been lightweight and priced at a certain pricepoint in the market. Lotus is now trying to reinvent itself - but this depends on attracting different buyers - who may not be interested in Lotus. It feels to me like Lotus wants to emulate Aston Martin.

IMO a company should stay true to its identity - otherwise it risks losing its existing customers while not necessarily attracting its target customers.

Re: Lotus at Paris Auto Salon

I don't understand either why the new management tries to copy Ferrari and Lamborghini and Aston Martin.

Take the new Elise for example. Ok, it looks interesting (even if I can see a bit of VW scirocco and Lambo/Aston in it), but it is completely different from the original Elise. The new one is bulkier, more comfortable and heavier, or, to sum it up, it's a complete car now. Whereas the original Elise was a fun car, a weekend car. It was raw, spartan yes, but that's what also gave it its character.

I find many new models interesting, but I'm not sure whether this whole new era was really necessary. Lotus had their niche cars, why did they want to change a winning horse ?

The new Elan also sounds promising, but if I compare the data sheet with the EvoraS, then I wonder, who's going to buy the Evora....well, we haven't seen the prices yet, maybe that's where the catch is.

I'll be in Paris tomorrow until Sunday, I'll post some more pics when I return.

     and the new Esprit.

I also think it wasn't a strategical good idea to show the new Esprit together with all the other prototypes.

In the UK, its network of 23 dealerships will be sharply reduced, perhaps to as few as three, while in Japan the number of Lotus dealerships will be cut from 27 to just six, he said.
