When Dickie mentioned that he drives a GT2 at the 'Ring I instantly had to think of one of my friends.....who is exactly the opposite: always extremely friendly and helpful to others, way too modest (never even mentioning laptimes) but once he's on the track he has no probs to keep up with the testdrivers from Weissach I very much prefer the companion of this type of track driver.
Though on the track the Dickies of this world are a problem, because it's unsafe to overtake them as you never know how they will react

I agree. I much prefer the more modest but yet actually very good track drivers and if you ask they share their experiences and give you helpful advice.
And I cant stand the besserwisser type which in some cases are actually quite poor drivers. And on the track they think they are so fast that nobody should pass them, even if you catch them up quite fast. 
Maybe their mirrors dont work? 
But I´m happy there are not too many of this last type of drivers on trackdays. On touristenfahrt days I think you see them more often....

Mirrors are working well but some hobby psychologists claim that those guys can't have fun with their girlfriend in the evening when they have been overtaken on the track in the afternoon
Seriously: if someone has a problem with letting others overtake him he should stay away from the track.
A simple calculation demonstrates the odds of being the fastest: 100 trackday participants = 1% chance 
And I actually think there are (relatively) more "Dickies" on trackdays than on Touristenfahrten, though you can observe more "rolling obstacles" on Touristenfahrten. Sounds like a contradiction ? As per my own observation a lot of - obviously inexperienced - drivers block faster cars not because of an ego problem (that would be Mr. Dickie) but because they are 100% busy with trying to keep their cars on the track. I had such a candidate in front of me yesterday and I never would have expected him to arrive in one piece after his lap as he constantly was all over the track with squealing tires etc. Hence I decided not to overtake him, increase the distance by driving a bit slower myself and "enjoying" the spectacle from behind
BTW - as you may have experienced yourself already - the Ring-Taxis also are not very willing to let others overtake (maybe they are afraid their guests may claim a refund ) But at least it's good fun to watch them drifting - it's priceless to look into the eyes of the rear bench passengers when the M5 goes sideways and they didn't expect some other car right behind them

haha " My student caught up to you in his Ford Focus" priceless.
I unfortunately have little to no track experience, I did a couple of auto-x in my 944 but nothing serious. However, i will move back to Germany and start getting into it with either a 951 or e36 M3. thanks for posting. This sort of driver would scare me away from an event, it is serious out there and rules need to be followed.

It's not just those type, it's the "Caterhams" and their drivers with their "I own this track and couldn't give a toss about anyone else" attitude with the most annoying trait of not getting out of the way for obviously faster drivers. You end up dropping back deliberately just so you don't encounter them....

Hahaha,
Just reminded me of this guy who claims 700 RWHP with his modified Corvette.
Met this guy a couple of times on various track days and he always got rear-spanked by other unmodified stock cars. Then spent a better half of his day fixing his car himself on the pit lane claiming there's something wrong with his car (hence the slower lap times) instead of driving.
This video is so true.
