CAN YOU RETROFIT ON A 997 MK1 MANUAL A PDK?

I Know its a silly question but would it be possible if anyone knows to have a pdk gearbox installed at the place of the manual one on a 997 mk1?Smiley

Re: CAN YOU RETROFIT ON A 997 MK1 MANUAL A PDK?

Hi Florent - welcome back to RT - haven't heard from you for a long time

In answer to your question, I have a question: is it really worth the time, effort/aggravation and cost given how easily one could sell a 997.1 and replace it with a 997.2 PDK ?

Personally, I wouldn't do it - even if it was possible (which I am doubtful about)

    Cheers
    Easy

Re: CAN YOU RETROFIT ON A 997 MK1 MANUAL A PDK?

I  very much doubt it as the engine is completely different thereby having a different mating to the gearbox.

I know again it is a different engine from the Mk1 Carrera but this is one of two reasons why the GT3 still has a manual only gearbox, the other being weight......

Re: CAN YOU RETROFIT ON A 997 MK1 MANUAL A PDK?

Exactly - the 997.1 C2 has a M96 engine (derived from the 996). The 997.1 C2S had an all new M97 engine. The 997.2 cars have all new DFI engines.

The 997.1 TT had a Mezger engine derived from the GT1 whereas the 997.2 TT (that can take a PDK transmission) is a DFI engine - essentially AFAIK the 997.2 TT engine is a twin-turbo version of the 997.2 C2S engine.

So, long story short, it's mainly a problem of engine compatibility with the PDK gearbox.

And like cdixon said, the 997.2 GT3 still has a Mezger GT1 based engine.

I guess anything could be possible with enough money but it is likely several times more expensive than to simply trade the 997-MkI-manual in for a 997-MkII-PDK.

The worse part should be the adaption of chassis, gearbox and engine on the electronic segment...

Re: CAN YOU RETROFIT ON A 997 MK1 MANUAL A PDK?

trading in 997.1 for 997.2 would be the easier and more sensible approach.

i don't know about import tax in greece on cars...but usually questions like this come from owners in markets where import tax makes trad-ins almost impossible.

unfortunately just like here in egypt.

Re: CAN YOU RETROFIT ON A 997 MK1 MANUAL A PDK?

    Thank you guys,

Its absolutely about this reason that I asked.

A new tax system made it absoltely impossible to change your car.

Unless I found a PDK that would match my expectations I think I will keep my car that really has an LSD sports suspension plus PSE exhaust and HAS BEEN BOUGHT BRAND NEW.

For the story a new MK2 carrera S would now cost about 180.000 euros and that is with few extras..... When you think that I paid for mine 140.000 Euros in 2007 (which was already a lot) you can see were I am coming from.

So I think that sooner or later they will discover that they are not able to sell any car at all and maybe re-adjust the taxation system....

Thanks to all of you for your posts...

Re: CAN YOU RETROFIT ON A 997 MK1 MANUAL A PDK?

But if you have a reasonably well-functioning market, I presume the value of your car has also gone up as a result of the new tax regime. So the gap between a new car and your trade-in would reflect that.

A country with Greece's current financial problems is not going to have a "well-functioning market" for non-essential goods like relatively expensive sports cars. Items like that are known to be amongst the first to suffer in a downturn.

Re: CAN YOU RETROFIT ON A 997 MK1 MANUAL A PDK?

As a matter of fact my car has lost so much for various reasons.

Many people have bought cars that now with the financial crisis can not afford to pay anymore.

As a result the market is full of 997 and turbos at sometimes incredible prices as people just want to get rid of the car.

I was trying to trade my car at the OPC dealer at 85.000 Euros but the dealer told me it was hard to leave. The car stayed 5 months at the dealership and could not concurence other offers (non OPC though) for similar cars at 65.000 -negotiable.

So I have to sit and wait but at the end of the day I am going to keep it!

Re: CAN YOU RETROFIT ON A 997 MK1 MANUAL A PDK?

then keep it and enjoy it as it is......no logic in trying to go pdk.....
