    A meeting with a hero

I visited the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2-3-4 July (a report will follow), but I wanted to give this as a teaser.

A meeting with Mr. Andreas Preuninger.

It's one of the great things of the Festival of Speed, you get to meet the people and get to see the cars you'd never hope to meet and see.

I was looking around the GT2 RS, and I had some questions (why did it have 997.1 mirrors, was it because of the carbon front wings that the extensions look different than on the GT3 RS, ...), suddenly I noticed Mr. Preuninger arriving, and we got to talk, such a great guy, very down to earth and very much a petrolhead, very aware of the need for purity in the GT-models. The best man to have in charge of the GT-cars.

The day before I had a very good talk with someone from Porsche UK, we talked for almost an hour, the guy was amazed by the amount of 'secret' info (regarding GTS, 991, ...) I had just by browsing the internet , it was hilarious to see him trying to deny everything but on the other hand letting me know I was right. Smiley

A great experience, and great to know there are some passionate guys at work at Porsche.

That's great Porker -- congratulations! Smiley

Andreas Preuninger is an awesome engineeer, a great sports car enthusiast and a true gentleman!

I suspect that if Andreas didn't already work for Porsche, he would be a keen member of the Rennteam community! Smiley

Look forward to hearing your feedback from Goodwood!

Good stuff! . What does A. Preuninger think of the GT2 then? I would go for the GT3, this is why I am asking.

Re: A meeting with a hero

I met him last year at the GT3 launch event at Silverstone. What a great and passionate guy. Talking to him you really got the feel that the GT cars are his babies, a real petrol head, who gave an in site into all the design decisions taken with the cars, he was also humble enough to listen to all the GT drivers suggestions for improvement...... Just don't mention sun roofs on GT3's to him :-)

Re: A meeting with a hero

All Porsche employees I have met so far have been very passionate, friendly and down-to-earth. Haven´t personally met the guy who initiated the Sport Chrono stopwatch though...

Re: A meeting with a hero

Very nice Porker! What did you think of the GT2 RS?

I only got his opinion on the GT2 RS vs. the GT3 RS, I asked him if it was similar in purity. He said the GT2 RS was really conceived as a GT3 RS -pure- but with lots more power. He also admitted always some of the purity gets lost in turbocharging an engine and having less revs to play with. But altogether it's a more focused GT2, which should remind you of the GT3 RS's dynamics.

About the drivability he said it was perfectly controlable...

    ... in dry weather. Smiley

It was funny to talk to the Porsche UK-guy about Preuninger, apparently his nickname is mr. Wahnsinn, he likes to drive very quickly and apparently is a very good driver.

    Mike S:

Very nice Porker! What did you think of the GT2 RS?

I love the concept and I'm sure I'd love the way it drives. Esthetically I wasn't convinced with the carbon roof and Porsche shield bonnet-sticker (which looked cheap), also the red interior isn't my taste, but these are all things one could configurate differently.

An all black GT2 RS would be awesome, I'm still in the GT3 RS camp though.

The sound was reasonable for a turbo'ed flat-six, definately louder than the GT2, and I assume even more on the inside as it does without much sound deadening. The acceleration seemed simply brutal.

Re: A meeting with a hero

Thanks Porker, valuable insight, indeed, on the GT2 vs GT3 question!
