Re: New 997 Turbo S and Turbo S Cabriolet (2010)

    RC:

The results of a 997 Turbo S from a "private" testing (various runs, using performance box and GPS):

0-100 kph in 2.9 seconds (very impressive)

    0-200 kph in 10.3 seconds

It would be nice to know the details of that testing. Smiley

Re: New 997 Turbo S and Turbo S Cabriolet (2010)

My new Turbo S arrived just over 3 weeks ago. I have since clocked almost 4000 km and I am glad I heeded Cannga's advice:Smiley

Bilstein B16 suspension and Cargraphic exhaust, plus Sport Cup semi-slicks.

While the Turbo is not made to be used on a racetrack the way a GT3/RS is, it is a powerful, very agile car for everyday use, winding and fast country roads/mountain passes and the occasional use on a race track.

Acceleration is awesome, gear-shifting with PDK both under power and when down-shifting under braking is great fun and the Cargraphic sound is just terrific.Smiley

Due to its higher weight, the Turbo is at a natural disadvantage to the GT3 on track (especially under braking), but my guess is that a Turbo S with the added goodies mentioned above would give it a good run for its money.

    Nice new avatar, Kreso. Smiley

Astonishing numbers, unfortunately still no time for 0-300 kph... Smiley

To be honest, I think this number is not that important, the 100 to 200 acceleration is what counts.

Nevertheless it would be nice to know. Smiley

BTW Conny, is that your car in your avatar? Smiley

Yes I got it this week. The acceleration ist actually very impressive and the "best" of all:
In sport/sport+ mode the exhaust note is with a slight deeper growl compared to the standard.
Porsc he actually improved the sound of the S model. Smiley

Re: New 997 Turbo S and Turbo S Cabriolet (2010)

strong numbers and as long as shifs concerne the acceleration of the new turbo / S pdk are almost unbeatable. But over 200kmh up to 300kmh they wound be as quik as for example:   458 takes (around 33 secs up to 300kmh ) gt2 997 (officialy data 33 secs )as well but messured in 34 to 36 secs ,  lp 560 messured in 35 secs..

Turbo pdk was around 41 secs so the s will be around 39 secs (my guess)

Why should it be slower than GT2 when it has similar hp yet slippier aerodynamics and faster gear changes Smiley

Re: New 997 Turbo S and Turbo S Cabriolet (2010)

reason could be gear ratio, 7 th gear of pdk is purly overdrive, top speed reatched in 6th gear, power to wight ratio of gt2 is still better then turbo / s pdk  and  sport auto messured on its high speed test gt2 up to 300 in 36 secs turbo pdk in 41 secs.

i tested with a friend of mine his new turbo pdk on the german high ways against my gt2 and in fact about 230 kmh the gt2 makes his terrain.....

any other ideas why gt2 is faster on high speed....

No I don't think it makes any dicernible difference. I ran my 993tt in 2WD and 4WD in acceleration tests up to 310kph and there was no discernable difference in the times (only the 4WD was a lot more stable !!)

The Cargraphic 997GT2 bodied turbo is 4WD and its 630PS/890NM managed 0-300kph in 23.8s, the 2WD Techart GT2 with claimed 700PS was a couple of seconds slower....

It is the "quality" of the hp IMO and the new engine appears to lose its power once it gets heated up....

dont agree with that cargraphic vers techart gt2.

First techart ( GT street rs )has sutch a big body kit witch makes a lot a additional drag, but as well additional down force. Second techart is running 20 (zoll) tyres, vers cargrapich 19, and the techart wight  is 80 kg more than the cargraphic. And big surprisly the cargraphic was dynod over 700 hp....

(somehow cargraphic is extremly conservativ with the offical hp)

It is not possible to run a 23 secs up to 300kmh with only 630 hp, on a 4wd turbo. Otherwise the new gt2 rs should run around 23-24 secs as well with 620 hp....

9ff with 800 hp and sportec with 750 hp runs around 21 secs. (both modded gt2) try to upload the scans in the next times  (in this test was as well the gt street rs with 26 secs up to 300kmh but really quick on track due to his additonal downforce

What is the issue with the heating of the new 3,8liter engine, why is there a probleme in powerloss over the older 3,6 liter  thanks for info

Re: New 997 Turbo S and Turbo S Cabriolet (2010)

Dario, do you have details of the Cargraphic car being dynoed at 700hp ?

You may be right and they may be sandbagging (they certainly lied about the torque - they quoted the same 826NM in that test yet and know for a fact the engine was re-built and retuned with Carrillo rods and 900NM.) They say the hp was the same ~630 but because the torque curve was so high it has the 630hp virtually all the way from 5500rpm to 7000rpm, this could make the car do the 23.8s 0-300kph.....

This is all very interesting for me as my power curve is NOT like this and I am about to have Carrillos fitted and am considering having a similar retune as I describe above - if I do then we won't have to speculate since I will do the testing

I don't think you can compare 9ff or Sportec power numbers, they are done on different chassis dynos, Cargraphic is on engine dyno which measures torque very accurately.

will try to recontact the owner and have a copy of his dyno sheed to upload it.

Saw him on tuner granprix, but his explination maked sense to me as i could not (and still can not ) believe that only  a "630" hp car could t run a 23 secs up to 300kmh

i agree with you that hp from different tuners are hardly to compare, but we also know that 9ff build very strong and fast cars.

As you running a nicely moddet gt2, what is your time up to 300kmh. Would say it must be around 27-28 secs if you running standart gear ratio. (in this cas 630 hp for 23 secs seems even more unlikely)

I will head towards   www.manthey-motors.de/nextshopcms/show.asp   for my tuning but the outcome will be only 600 hp.. For me important is quality witch definitly comes from manthey (see 24 houre race on nürnburgring) and not the amount of hp. The mantey kid is about 25 000 euros  (different cooling, different exhaust, cats, different clucth and mapping) i know i could get it have price easily at cargraphic, but im sure that they could never profide the quality as manthey does  (Manthey m600  hockenheim time was 1:08,4).

So i would be curios to know a bit about your mods, guess you did aswell the turbos, who did your mapping.

    Thanks for some infos

I only use RS Tuning for engine work, they are the best, better than Manthey (who use outside programmer and rolling road for tuning). Manthey's forte is chassis set up and race preparation. In the 24 Nurburgring race you refer to the RS Tuning engined Porsche Cup finished in front of all the Manthey and official Porsche entrants - it was the best placed Porsche. My 0-300 is about 26s but that is for a non "built" engine - bolt ons only, the Cargraphic car we are discussing has special rods and a lot of torque, it did 200-300kph in 14.8s which is 0.83s faster than mine (it is about 60kg heavier than mine, similar aerodynamics, 4WD v 2WD) different day and conditions so FWIW ?

Artur, About 36s would be right. Even 35s is possible since I know that some examples of 997.2 Turbo PDK did 0-300km/h in 39.4s...
