    brunner:

It does on much lesser cars, i'd be surprised if it doesnt.

If I remember correctly, the GT2's AC does cut out under full load.

On the other hand, I do think that the GT2 has enough torque under full load to satisfy any driver plus AC. Smiley

Configurator only says silver metallic for the GT2 RS, could be the new platinum silver? Smiley

Very nice car... on all above real-life pictures, they use the small mirrors of the 997.1 model. The press pictures show the bigger 997.2 mirrors. What´s the story...?

I asked that question to Preuninger at the Festival of Speed, apparently the CF mirrors were designed before the new EU-regulations, developing all over withing the new dimensions would've been too costly, and as the GT2 RS will be out of production before the EU reg becomes obligatory, they decided to fit the small ones they initially developed. Just picked-up August issue of EVO, with a comparison test of SLS/Turbo S/R8 V10/599/Vantage V12 and Bristol Fighter.

Turbo S achieved some spectacular acceleration figures:

    0-60mph = 2.9s

    0-100mph = 6.8s

    0-120mph (192kmh) = 9.8s

    0-130mph (208kmh) = 11.5s

    0-160mph = 19.3s

    1/4 mile = 11.0/127.2mph

    Porsche's figures for the new GT2 RS must be conservative - 0-100kmh in 3.5s / 0-200kmh in 9.8s?

I'm sure the GT2 RS are very conservative, but have in mind that we compare latest generation PDK with "old-style" manual here, which will result in some tenths in favour of the PDK. Smiley

You are never happy lol.700NM isn´t good enough,it did 7:18 or less in Nur so.

I see you have 827NM in your GT2...is that really usable and needed on the road? Or it behaves like a 1000NM Merc?

I guess I thought the barrier to excess of 700NM was the standard rods but it seems maybe it is as you say, Porsche decided that 700NM was enough for 7:18 so why do you need more ?

7GT2 with PSM, TC and 325 Cups can easily cope with 830NM in the dry with good traction in second and no loss of traction 3rd onwards..... torque = fun Smiley

    Re: 997 GT2 RS - Official Information & Photos

Yup torque= fun for sure, I am with tobby on that one. The issue is power delivery I guess so they probably decided to keep the peak torque artificially low and then keep of flat torque curve. I have 900nm+ on a tt and the issue is not traction but that it comes quite abruptly (albeit from quite low) and that can upset the balance of the car mid corner. That effect would be x2 on a rwd GT2. I would still have preferred 800nm+ though! Lol

    Re: 997 GT2 RS - Official Information & Photos

I rather suspect the gearbox to be the limiting factor for the torque rating, does anybody know the official limit of the GT2 gearbox?

    Re: 997 GT2 RS - Official Information & Photos

Its same as turbo I believe. At around 900nm+ there is no problem provided of course you have the heavy duty sachs clutch.

    Re: 997 GT2 RS - Official Information & Photos

True... but what is the OEM´s official limit? I seem to remember that it was around 700 Nm.

Good question Smiley I would have a strong preference for 800NM as well SmileySmiley As you write below: the fun gets bigger the more NM there are... One aspect might be the balanced handling. Maybe the car would be more difficult to drive at the limit if the NM output was significantly higher? Otherwise, could also be a question of reliability - even with the revised engine parts.

I'm not sure there is an official "limit" ?

The 993 turbo gearbox which I think was similar but without the oil coolers could hold up to 750NM but at these levels it is always a matter of how long things can take the stresses before they start to fail ? My 993tt box at 750NM lasted about 15000Km before 3rd gear cracked and once rebuilt it lasted another 12000Km before 5th gear started whining like a b*tch !

fun = torque + requisite maintenance budget Smiley

    EVO review :

    http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evocarreviews/254707/porsche_911_gt2_rs_review.html

    • This car is different-world fast to the Turbo S
    • The traction and stability control calibration is a masterstroke: you can use so much of the performance, so much of the time.
    • I saw 334kmh on the speedo, and it was still pulling like a mentalist.
    • It’s faster, more useable and far cheaper than a 599 GTO
    • Veyron aside, it’s the fastest road car I’ve driven – but it’s completely useable and it still involves you in the process. Want.
