As many of you are now collecting your Mk2 997s, you may find this thread containing a New Car Collection Checklist useful.

Could one of the moderators kindly make this into a sticky thread once again so that Rennteamers can access this thread more easily. Many thanks.

Thanks mate, very good thread....

I learnt the hard way with a Boxster that it is SO important to check every panel on the car for dings... With my Boxster i noticed three days after collection that it had a palm size dent in the front wing caused by someone leaning on the car. Of course it was to late to complain and it cost me Pounds60 in paintless dent removal.....

I have slightly updated the original list and made it more for UK collections hope you don't mind:-

Things to take:

Driving License
Insurance Documentation
Order conformation with extra list
iPOD

Items which should be in the car:

- Keys (2 main, 1 spare)
- VTS Cards (2)
- VTS Certificate (Fax to insurance company)
- Owner's manual (in English)
- Service handbook (in English)
- PCM manual (in English)
- Quick reference guide (in English)
- Warranty booklet (in English)
- Worldwide Porsche dealership directory (in English)
- Porsche Assistance booklet (in English)
- Porsche Assistance card
- Leather portfolio
- Full tank of fuel
- Locking wheel nut adapter should be in toolkit

Things to do before leaving the factory:

- Check VIN # correct
- Check that pre-delivery inspection (PDI) is stamped in service handbook
- Check that all standard specification & optional items are fitted using price list & my order sheet
- Check car very carefully (1) outside (esp body panels, wheels & windows) for dings, dents, scratches, rust or damage & (2) inside for interior imperfections (esp leather seats & trim)
- Check all electrics work e.g. lights (inside & outside), indicators, windows, locks, alarm, wipers, PCM & CD player/radio. Any warning lights etc?
- Learn how to take an engine oil level reading & take one under supervision
- Check time set correctly
- Reset average speed, average consumption & daily trip mileage to zero
- Check mileage on odometer (Take photo of it)
- Program Bluetooth link to phone

dont take too many people with you. Try to enjoy every moment without distractions. You have to have all your senses ready, because there is nothing better than the smell of a new porsche.
I still remember day 1 clearly and it always puts a smile on my face.

Coming back to the UK will invariably mean travelling through France and new rules there mean that by law you must carry a reflective jacket or waistcoat and it must be readily to hand and worn before you exit the car (in an emergency).

dont people go for a test drive? just to make sure it is running fine, good gear changes, rattles etc?

Folks,

Just reviving this thread as i am getting excited as i have been given the June 18th Factory Collection date for my GT3.

I have a quick question:-

As part of the handover process do i need to insure that i get the VTS keys and certificate, or is this done when i get the car back to the UK at the OPC ?

@cdixon: congrats You must be very excited

The PVTS preparation is done at the factory BUT I had the device installed on the car, got the installation cerificate, instruction manual & 2 wallet 'fobs' from the UK dealer I went to after returning to the UK. (NB I bought my car from a German dealer so all this can be done as an after sales matter). In your case (assuming you bought the car through a UK dealer), I assume you will simply go back to the same OPC to do the things I did.

Thanks for the info, this is what i thought would be the situation.

Can you tell me how long it takes them to fit the VTS ? The Car was ordered through my UK dealer.

It's a 1 or 2 hour process at most since you also fill in a PVTS contract and then the OPC calls Cobra to set it all up

(The Porsche Nav system is a little wacko,--you input the Lat/Long as LONGITUDE first, and then LATITUDE. (Backwards of the rest of the civilized world).
