Ferrari 599XX breaks 7 minute barrier on the Nurburgring

I'm starting to think the GTO is still available and not many people placed any orders

Ferrari has claimed that the Ferrari 599XX completed the 20.832-kilometer Nordschleife circuit at the Nürburgring in 6m 58.16 s.  Ferrari claims this is the first time that a "production-derived sports car" has broken the seven-minute barrier.

This is not really true, as the Radical SR8 had a confirmed time of 6m 55s in September 2005, followed up by the Radical SR8LM last year, which finished in 6m 48s.  Naturally, Ferrari will dispute that the Radical is not a "production-derived sports car."

Still, the time posted by the made-for-the-track 599XX is an accomplishment.  We hope the exhilarating drive quality translates over to the road-ready Ferrari 599 GTO.

Re: Ferrari 599XX breaks 7 minute barrier on the Nurburgring

Can the 599XX be licensed for road use?

If not, this record has no validity IMO.

It's not where you're going, it's how you get there that counts

Re: Ferrari 599XX breaks 7 minute barrier on the Nurburgring

Its not only not street legal, its a race car, but since its not meant for any official competition and only for client track use, its unresticted by any of the competition's regulations or limitations... so the under 7min is hardly acomplishement.

Exactly, it's like trying to associate the lap times of say,  a Cup R or RSR or BMW GTR with the respective road cars

O.K. it's a racecar and it was on Slicks. Still very impressive - the top VLN cars need exactly the same time (slightly below 7 min) for the Nordschleife lap Smiley

But those are set up to do these lap times for a long race.

Perhaps for a single "advertisement"  lap a la 599XXX they could be much faster Smiley

Smiley Yes, regular VLN race = 4 hrs Smiley I'm only a humble trackday driver at the 'Ring, but one thing is for sure: when it comes to reliability (more than 2 fast laps Smiley) = PORSCHE rules Smiley

All the Porsche killers (Z06, GT-R....) suffer from thermic problems Smiley

    EDIT: Lotus also rules Smiley

Re: Ferrari 599XX breaks 7 minute barrier on the Nurburgring

well for the last 2 years porsche in direct competition to ferrari in gt2, has lost every 10h+ event they raced

24h Le Mans, 12h Sebring, 10h pettit, nad 24h of spa

And in all those events, the wining ferrari only stoped for fuell and tires

Re: Ferrari 599XX breaks 7 minute barrier on the Nurburgring

Yes Arakis, but as you  know well enough, there have been accidents like one Porsche taking out another, running out of fuel in the the pit lane, etc.

    Enjoy it while you can.

Re: Ferrari 599XX breaks 7 minute barrier on the Nurburgring

Come on for the love of ****, 8 races in a row, 2 years of endurance drout, and all you can say is bad luck!!

BTW, I haven't seen any gt3 RSR times even close to these, at the 24h Nurbergring they dont run the 20km track, they do the 24km, if anyone knows the time for the 997 rsr on the 20.832 km track please post

Re: Ferrari 599XX breaks 7 minute barrier on the Nurburgring

Not just bad luck, but poor management and driver choices. (No Seth Nieman racing in a Ferrari)

The Mamrow GT3 R was doing 8:17 in todays race. In order to get the time for the 20Km track, you need to take 1:40 - 1:50 off that time.

BTW - The Farnbacher F430 finished in 100th place and had a best time of 8:24

Last season that I remember off hand Porsche won all possible titles in ALMS, LMS, and Grand AM. In FIA GT they missed out on the manufacturers' title having won the drivers'.

These are the top endurance racing championships as far as I know Smiley

The lack of success in some individual races  is well explained by Spyderidol, as above.

Firt of all ALMS, and Fiagt have nothing to do with endurance racing, they are 2-3 h sprints!

with both having 1 or two races that are long neither of witch porsche has won in 2 years!

in other words, porsche got their behinds woped on all endurance events in the last 2 years, and the reasons don;t seriosly matter since all that will be rembered is the victories, and speaking about varius excuses in 2 years, is bouth irational and disrispectfull to the Ferrari  and Porsche racing Heritige! just face it Porsche lost all endurance racies in the last 2 years, and it lost all of them fair and square!

and spyderidol, seriusly, metioning driver choices and poor managment as an excuse for porsche and then quoting the hancook-Frambacher ferrari against countless full factory porsches. Seriusly, COME ON

Re: Ferrari 599XX breaks 7 minute barrier on the Nurburgring

BTW - No factory Porsches in yesterdays race. Too bad!

Re: Ferrari 599XX breaks 7 minute barrier on the Nurburgring

See I know you folow these races closly, and you know better.

You want to tell me with all sincerity that ferrari was even remotly represented as porsche was at the last round, or even closly as porsche was at Le Mans, Spa or Sebring or Pettit

I you are, then you should give up racing, 'cause you dont know a race from a fixed result! --BTW not implying anyone is cheating, just that the comperison FvP was not even close to being considered remotly fair

Re: Ferrari 599XX breaks 7 minute barrier on the Nurburgring

Arakis - You are the one making the comparison. I merely gave the position and lap time.

Re: Ferrari 599XX breaks 7 minute barrier on the Nurburgring

ok here is some data for you, well its more like a joke,

Q: How many Porsche 997 RSR does it take to win Le Mans?

A: the number is irelevant because none will finish it!Smiley

That was the case in 2008, 2009

Re: Ferrari 599XX breaks 7 minute barrier on the Nurburgring

This is usual for the VLN race right before the 24h - they don't want to take the risk of loosing a car.

    FERRARI RULES!!!

Re: Ferrari 599XX breaks 7 minute barrier on the Nurburgring

I was at the Ring in he last passed weekend with 3 of my friends, on of them is Querem from Rennteam, and now watching this video is incredibly FAST

I did 7 laps with a Suzuki swift stage 2 that is rented from rent4ring.

Maybe I should open a new thread for the weekend since on Saturday we also watched part of VLN race.

Needless to say, Nürburgring with all its facilities and its crowd is magical. I didn't want to leave..
