I dont believe we will see a GT2 RS it will use RS technology (we can spot it in the pics) yes but it will not be badge RS.
Fascinating developments
They have been talking about the GT2RS for so long and I believe even had final spec with Mezger engine and NO PDK...... Following istructions from importer my dealer was asking for deposits, there was talk of 5 cars for the UK....
Maybe they didn't get the deposits and worldwide demand was not high enough so they have shelved the RS ?
I also heard that Porsche engineers were working on developing the Dfi engine for the GT2 at 550PS level and having problems - could be they solved the problems and got reliability to the level they are happy with ?
The lack of "RS" style rear wing on these spy pics does indicate that this may not be an RS version and as has been pointed out above wider track and GT3RS wheels would be a logical upgrade for the 997GT2.2 Dfi.......
I'm still struggling with a GT model getting this new engine, it sort of goes against the consumer orientation of this engine - tie will tell

Today in ams online:
www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/news/porsche-911-gt2-als-erlkoenig-erwischt-der-letzte-bekommt-das-facelift-1829193.html
With PDK ?
Unfortunately, this text posted by AMS is most likely BS PDK would be great - but 99.9% unlikely... And 550hp is also very unlikely - should be 560, 570 or maybe even 580
What about the exhaust system - as we know the Mezger engined 997GT2 has a specific Akrapovic titanium rear silencer whose orientation means the exhaust tips exit the rear at a specific (and unique to the 997GT2) angle - this phot below looks exact same exhaust tip layout as my GT2....... so Metzger engine and NO PDK ?
This is the 997tt.2 Dfi exhaust, in steel:

I still don't think that there will be a RS version and a GT2 FL. The market for the GT2 is small enough anyhow. If you then split it between a RS and a FL you end up with minimal production numbers - in particular if you consider a product life cycle of less than a year.
Thus: either nor RS - or RS and FL are the exact same car. One thing is for sure: such car would not come in limited production numbers. Only the limited product life cycle will limit the numbers to be sold
The car will come with manual box only, will have between 560 and 580 hp (560 more likely) and will still have the old GT1 block Anyone wants to place a bet

Agree 100%
Just spoke with my dealer who has 1 order for GT2 RS with deposit £15K held by Porsche AG and invited me to give him another

599 GTO killer ?
If you ask me you don't need the Mk2 version for this purpose. The MK1 version is enough
(The GTO should have better straight line acceleration than MK1 though - at least in theory, for this purpose Mk2 is very useful. My opinion: nobody should consider a GTO as a valid competitor to a car like the GT2, the GTO or 599 has other qualities but cannot match a GT2 in terms of performance)

It looks stunning and with optional PDK...OMG!

Let me clarify this.I only said my opinion, its not based in any inside information. When i said RS technology i meant wider track, maybe GT3 RS suspension tunning and respective lightweight components. Engine? My bet is new DFI modified for about 560 ponies and optional PDK.
LIke someone said before,i can´t believe in Porsche having problems with a 550 hp DFI engine if they have a 530 hp unit.Safety marging of 20 hp Can´t be true.
Well lets wait and see.

Well I tested my GT2 against my friend's 599 GTB and the 599 was slightly faster in stright line if we accelerate exactly together from roll (around 40kmh) , there was no car length between us only the tip of the Ferrari was 1-2 meters in front to 260-280kmh and we tried this many times (i'm only talking about stright line)
and about the GT2.2 i think we will not see an RS version and the GT2 will have 550hp imo no more because Porsche has always been cheap about horse power, and it will lose approx 30kg and no PDK ofc
Edit: I dont know if you guys have noticed the carbon fiber here

for all i know it's covered carbon on the gen1 as well..
Yes, it is - there is a company MacCarbon (I think) who will strip your Mk1 lip and take it back to its exposed carbon glory !
Just noticed the seats in the pic of the new black one round the ring - are those CGT seats ? Are they the same as in the new GT3RS ? if yes then more strength for the GT2RS side - they have never changed details like seats for a Mk.2 version of anything but the GT2RS is supposed to be lighter and these will be lighter than the recliners.....
Edit: Just checked, looks like the GT3RS gets normal GT2 race recliners and these pics are def the CGT seats - I am calling GT2RS again WITH Mezger for this black beast - can anyone tell if the rear carbon lip on the spoiler is slightly bigger or at a slightly more vertical angle than GT2.1 ?

These extra-light seats are available as an option for the regular GT3. Thus, no indication towards "RS"

I agree - looks like a 997 GT2 MKII to me But then, who cares about the model designation ? I'm sure this baby will blow away any other streetlegal car on the 'Ring Timo looks a bit bored behind the wheel, but that means nothing...

According to our rumors, there will be a 997 GT2 MkII soon (not RS) with 550 HP.
Can this power upgrade be done to a Turbo S? Just in case if Conny is asking.
Christian, will engine of the Mk2 be DFI or is it still the Mezger unit?

The secret of life is to admire without desiring.
Honestly...I don't know but it could still be the Mezger engine since the 997 GT2 MkII production won't run for long (not officially limited but the 991 is just around the corner).
