    Wheels for the X6M

Didn't really like the default style 300M or the 299M from the X5M.

I am liking the 20" style 214 in black or the 21" style 215 in dark grey.

    Any other suggestions?

    Re: Wheels for the X6M

Uh, pics would help... unless it's only for the insiders

215 looks ok but 214 is not my cup of tea....
Best looking with the OEM 300 from the X6M imho

Thanks Conny, didn't have those pics handy earlier.

    Re: Wheels for the X6M

215 looks amazing in the gun metal look on a X6M of any color really. they are bigger too which suits the X6 looks really well. I say go for the dark grey 215s.

indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine..  I happen to like both :)

Seems like BMW Canada is not letting me order the car with those wheels on, I HAVE to take delivery with the stock 300M, and order the wheels separately with the dealer. Reason being there is no market for the stock 300M and I can't trade up to the 215s or the 214s.

Guess I will keep the 300M as my snow tire rims.

Same in Germany, don't worry. Btw: I like the stock 300M wheels much more than the 215s or 214s but I guess this is a matter of personal taste. Smiley

    Re: Wheels for the X6M

intouch1 had a thread where he posted pics of his x6m with the 215 in black. you could look that up to get a better view of how it would look.

    Re: Wheels for the X6M

Originally I felt the 300M has too much straight lines on it, it's like it was made for Volvo in the 80s. :P

But I think it goes well with the boxier shape of the X5, the 299M standard on the X5M might be better suited to the curvier X6M, could be just me to think that way.

I thought the 214 has just enough curves in it to break up the straight lines, the 215 while 'curvy' enough, might be a little too harsh riding for the local roads.

I do like the 215 in charcoal, but don't think it will go well with the Carbon Black, a black one might be better.

In any case, I have about 2 months to decide, as my production slot is in May, so it will be here earliest late May but definitely sometime in June.

RC: wanna trade your stock 299M with my 300M? haha.

    Re: Wheels for the X6M

the original wheels suit the car best. i had the 214 on my 50i and got the 215 in black for the M.

i reverted back to the original wheels on the m as they just look 'right' on the car. the 215 are too agressive....

    Re: Wheels for the X6M

My friend got 215, they looks great . And because they are darker, he doesn't need to clean them every week..

    Re: Wheels for the X6M

It also depends on the car color. On dark colors the 215 in gun metal looks great. I agree with intouch, the black 215 on a white car is to aggressive!

    Re: Wheels for the X6M

215's in ferric grey is stunning.  There is a X5M at my dealership now with black 215s on a silver car.  I am not feeling it.

    Re: Wheels for the X6M

    intouch:

Are the 215 heavier than the stock wheels?

I was just at the dealership checking out the prices for the wheels, they have a package with tires for CAD6400, just slightly more than the US pricing of $6000. With shipping cost and the discount I can get,  there is not much difference.

And something scary happened, I walked by my salesman and just ask casually how's my order coming along, knowing my production is in May, she pulled up my file on the computer and shockingly the color had been changed to black from carbon black. Good thing we caught it as the order will be locking down soon.

I think I will be following RC in getting the black grill.

Also seriously considering a H&R lowering kit, and a nav-tv dvd unlock.

    Re: Wheels for the X6M

Whoopsy, is the H&R lowering kit made for the X5M or generic X5?  I would consider that to make ingress easier for the wife especially when she is wearing skirt.

Straight from the H&R website. First number is drop in front, second number is drop in rear, next is part number and then price :)

X5/X6/M all uses the same part,

    Re: Wheels for the X6M

Hmm, but the X5M has different damper than the standard X5.

    Re: Wheels for the X6M

Hmm, same platform so the basic parts are the same? H&R uses the same springs for regular and M. This kit is nothing more than 2 sprigs for the from and a 2 shorter links for the rear.

    Re: Wheels for the X6M

I think I may leave you to try this out first.   Last thing I want is a choppy ride because of mismatch between damper and spring rates.

    Re: Wheels for the X6M

Here are a few pics that I hijacked from 'other' BMW forums that show the lowered look for X5M and X6M.

WAY : think you probably seen them, I think I saw a WAY from Australia member from over there.

I do think there 'might' be a problem if I put bigger wheels PLUS a lowering kit on the car, I will research some more first, I got TIME!!.

    Re: Wheels for the X6M

I haven't been on the other sites for awhile so I haven't seen it.

    Re: Wheels for the X6M

imho they look much more proportional with the standard ride height. plus it could affect ride comfort.

    Re: Wheels for the X6M

Yeah I saw those, newest ones from BMW for the M, but I think they looked too busy from certain angles, but great from another.

    Re: Wheels for the X6M

I love this new rims! Excellent

Black or gray? Still can't decide. I like both.

    Re: Wheels for the X6M

If your car is black (if memory serves me right it is) then i would definitely go for gray, black on black would look too dark and would make the whole car seem less classy.

    Re: Wheels for the X6M

A more "simple" rim design suits the X5 M best, the choice for the X6 M may be different.

I would also stay away from lowering the X5 M: why the heck does somebody get a SUV and lower it ? This actually kills whatever off-road/snow/rain flood capability is left.

    Re: Wheels for the X6M

Lowering - since BMW doesn't curently offer a 5GT in M, I am turning the X6M into one            Just kidding.

The 300M just doesn't seem to look right on the X6M, it has too much straight lines, I think it suits the X5M more but since the X6M is more curvy, I think a curvy wheel like those 215 looks better.

First pic up there is the gray 215 on a carbon black, that blackish blue BMW offers that is almost the same as midnight blue from Porsche. Second pic is a black 215 on black, can't seems to find a pic of carbon black with black 215 on.

As intouch said earlier, the black 215 seems a bit too aggressive, but with me putting on the black grill they seems to go together, plus the thought of never needed to clean the rims appeals to me BMW are quite notorious for heavy brake dust.

The gray 215 looks great in person, I will probably get that in the end.

Just planned a golfing road trip for the 1st weekend of June, undecided on which car to drive, X6M or the Turbo. It's a 4.5hr drive to the interior in mountain roads. Last time I drove there was 10 years ago, I was in a C5 Corvette and I thought I was in heaven. I am leaning towards the Turbo but the X6M could get half it's break-in miles done in a weekend.
