    Re: Audi RS5 in Geneva

Nice videos... all makers should release these simple videos to let people better understand the car's looks and sound.   Interesting to see how much lean the old Quattro shows compared to the much flatter-cornering RS5.    And the "parking garage/tunnel" start-up at the end of the driving video is great!

My only slight disappointment, and its probably too early to tell, but to me it sounds like the S-Tronic shifts in a very slurred way, almost like a conventional torque converter auto ( but same as most  VW DSG I have tried).  For the RS5 I expected something that was pushed a bit more towards the harder-shifting style of some of the most sporting dual clutch systems.... perhaps the shift programming options can give you some control of shift style like DKG.  We all need to wait till non-Audi staff can drive the car to find out these details.

    Re: Audi RS5 in Geneva

Programing of S Tronic in RS5 is pretty similar to PDK in 997.2 models. There are 3 manual and 3 auto programms which can be selected via Audi Drive Select. Also there is an option to use sport shifting speed, sport throttle response and comfortable dampers, you can programm your favourite setup via Drive select.

Actually just about everything does Lother!  It's hard for us C63 owners as that has set a new benchmark in our heads on how V8s should sound.  I could only dream that my X5M sounded the same!

    Re: Audi RS5 in Geneva

how will RS 5 compete to C63 with neww 55T motor?

this is the main point I am trying to understand

In a straightline, even the old 6.2 V8 C63 will trump a RS5 everytime.  However dynamically, it looks like RS5 is at a different level.

Mercedes launched first numbers for the new 5.5 twin-turbo engine, by the way. The S-class will feature 555 hp and 800 Nm torque resp. 571 hp and 900 Nm with powerkit. Acc. number for the base version is 4.6 sec to 0 - 100 kph.

That much power and torque is stupid without AWD imho.

These are good points, its just disappointing because torque is what throws you back in the seat.  The new M5 will likely be very impressive due to the rumored forced induction.

    Re: Audi RS5 in Geneva

Realzeus, I don't recall too many RWD cars from those brands with 570hp and 900nm of torque though!  900nm of torque is pointless unless you can get it to the ground effeciently.

    Re: Audi RS5 in Geneva

You are right... most of these brands have more than 570Hp... so do F1 cars.  The fastest configuration for good, dry tarmac is RWD. AWD is only good in poor conditions.

The new RS5 is indeed a very nice car but I would have loved to see the RS6 engine in this baby.

Btw: in my opinion, the best bang for buck delivers the Audi TT RS right now. Some new dealer RS showcars go for aprox. 55000 EUR incl. 19% german VAT.

Very good performance for "little" money and definetely an alternative to the Cayman S.

A good friend of mine traded his M3 sedan in for one, modified it with DMS tune and Haldex controller, then sold it all within 2 months!  He said the car is fast but very dead, so he has bought a M3 Edition.

    Re: Audi RS5 in Geneva

Very "dead" ? It is fantastic to drive but of course it doesn't sound like the M3. I still would prefer it over the M3 for various reasons.

    Re: Audi RS5 in Geneva

Dead as in the steering isn't lively.  Very fast car though!

    Re: Audi RS5 in Geneva

    Wayne,

TT RS is faster  on the Ring then current M3-that is the fact. Do not forget that Sport Auto TT RS time is 8.09min with standard tires  and M3 Coupe achieved 8.05min with CUP+ tires.  TT RS dead in steering feel? Hmm.... Not sure why but M3 fans claim that this car has better steering feel then 997.1 Turbo for example. Ask Christian about it... He will LOL...

To confirm-TT RS will get S tronic with minor facelift in July 2010.

    Back OT.

Just get back from Geneva-totally tired since it was a flight to Geneva in small business jet, visit to show and flight back.

RS5 is excellent looking car in person. I personally am not the biggest fan of Misano Red Pearleffect color of the show car or polished wheels on it. Otherwise car is great.

    Kreso really dislikes red...

Spent lots of time at Geneva, trying to like this car.  Just couldn't get excited, and also don't like the red.  Car looks better in pictures than in the flesh.  Now the R8 Spyder, in bronze/gold nearby, was fantastic!

yes no doubt, the TT RS is a very fast car. But fact remains that my friend voted with his wallet, and losing tens of thousands of dollars along the way for trying the TT RS in between the two M3s. I have driven his TT RS, and I have to agree with him that the steering isn't tactile like the M3, but then again no AWD car will ever be as good as a good RWD set up when it comes to the steering feel. Also, because he isn't a tracker, prefering the mountain roads near where he lives over tracks, the feel is much more important than the actual speed. Like all AWD performance car, the TT grips so hard exiting the corners that it makes it less exciting, whereas you have to be much more precise in your throttle application in the M3. All factors that make the TTRS a less involving car than a M3. If it's me though, I would have kept the TT RS. Then maybe upgrading to the RS5 when it comes.

I have a TTS; not TT-RS; but I agree with him. TTS/ TT-RS are capable cars, but not as exciting and as special as M3

IMO the bucket seats (front and rear) as pictured above are a bit extreme for this car. I would go for normal seats.

Bucket seats are great; I have them in my TTS and very very happy to go wth them Smiley

Not up to speed on Audi, so I take it the bucket seats in the red RS5 above are an option....
