997 MY07 C2S: any tips to make the Bose sound good ?

    Guys,

The more I listen to my Bose system, the less I like it...

The bass range is really odd (sometimes there is really too much bass, sometimes you don't hear them), it seems like there is also too much trebble, and the Bose "surround" feature is awful !

My settings are: Bass 4, Trebble -1, and all the other settings at 0.

I would really love to tackle the bass issue... I don't know the correct words to say this english, but the major issue is that the the bass is there for too long... for example if you listen to electronic music, when there should be a boom, you here the boom and then a BOOOOOOOOOM for a second, but too late.

Any way of adressing this ?

Should something be replaced (speakers, amps, etc) ?

    Are my settings right ?

    Thx !

I have kept very different settings from you. When I get a chance, I will check what they are and I will post them here.

BTW I never use the surround sound feature - it's awful IMO. The sound without it is MUCH better

I'm actually very happy with the BOSE system so it may just be that you need to change the settings

Re: 997 MY07 C2S: any tips to make the Bose sound good ?

The Bose problem (and I experienced this in my Boxster) is that there is too much sub-bass from the sub-woofer, but because of the small size of the cabin, the wavelengths are too long, so you can't hear it.  When you turn it up, you hear too much of it!

The surround feature is just a gimmick.  Best leave it off.  What's good is the orientation (like a high-tech balance setting), which can be made to suit your tastes.  That sharpens up the soundstage quite a bit more than the default.

I have forgotten my settings in the Boxster now, but start with a clean slate, i.e. all sound effects off (best left off all the time!), audio pilot on (as that has nothing to do with the sound, just volume), and then start with both bass & treble all the way down.  Then start slowly increasing the bass.  You'll hear it more clearly with the treble down.  When it becomes too much, tone it down, and that's your bass setting.  Now slowly increase treble till it sounds natural, not tinny & coloured.

Incidentally, I didn't order Bose for my Carrera S!!

    The factory speakers are junk.

Upgrading the speakers will drastically change your audio enjoyment.

Are you talking about the Bose speakers?  If anything, the speakers should be the best part of the system, as that's Bose's core competence!

OTOH, the regular factory speakers are junk!!

The best audio upgrade is a better intake/exhaust system!!

Bose's core competence is marketingSmiley I wont say anymore or else you run me of the track on 26/3Smiley

Good choice Arshad in not ticking the Bose box.

My PSE has the "always ON" button in the center console Smiley

Thx for the advice guys, I'll try to test those tips and tricks asap and get back to you !

Re: 997 MY07 C2S: any tips to make the Bose sound good ?

@Liquid, mate, I agree about marketing being Bose's strongest point.  But what I meant was that the best part of their system would be the speakers, since they started off as a speaker company....

Unfortunately, won't be able to make it on the 26th, as I'll be out of town.

Missed you today on the drive to Khatt (yes, I know - never heard of the place myself!!) - not the greatest destination, but good roads to get there!

It's not really surprising that you have too much bass if your settings are at....bass +4 and treble -1.

Settings are generally according to personal taste, but I find that bass +1 and treble +4 suits me fine.  Don't forget you can choose separate settings for CDs and Radio.

It's never going to be perfect hi-fi in the confines of a car interior but, if adjusted correctly, the Bose is fine for music on the move.

I suggest you just keep experimenting until you find what's right for you... within the system's limitations...Smiley

Even at bass=0, listen to something like Daft Punk - Alive 2007, and you'll understand what I mean...

Re: 997 MY07 C2S: any tips to make the Bose sound good ?

@BangoO: here are my BOSE settings - sorry for the delay - I kept forgetting to write them down whenever I went to my car - old age!

Bass: +1 (you chose +4, IMO that's waaay too much!)
Treble: +2 (you can also pick +3 IMO)
Balance: 0 (this should always be 0)
Fader: v3 (I like to send more sound to the back so that I don't feel like the sound is blasting me in the face at close range)
    Audiopilot: ON
Surround: OFF (this technology doesn't work well - makes the sound like a distant echo)

These work fine for me - hope it helps

Also don't forget to keep the rear seat-backs folded forwards whenever possible.

Otherwise they will obstruct the main rear Bose speakers...
