Hummer is dying
Just read that GM will close down Hummer!
Kind of sad... as crappy as the cars are as much I like them

Those cars never stirred any interest in me but after all the success they had I find it odd and surprising to see a closure. Obviously the takeover by the Chinese company did not work out but Hummer has such a strong brand image, even internationally, that they should be able to survive with a new and forwarding model lineup. I suppose GM is neither keen nor financially solvent to make this happen in the near future, on top of that the existing cars will certainly affect fleet consumption figures in a massive way...

I never vandalize, but seeing the state society is in and the kind of people that drive hummers, i can pick them out in a crowd btw, makes me laugh.
Thank god for this, took way too long for them to die. Let's just hope Obama won't bail them out before

funnily enough, i had just spoken to my brother this morning and proposed ordring 2 H2 SUT's.
we are starting with a couple of projects south of whre i live and will need rugged SUV's that can take a beating without one really caring. H2 seemd like the perfect vehicle for that.
too late i guess........
had even contactd a US based dealer this afternoon to inquire about it and he said no 2010 models produced.
we can't import 2009 here anymore. so i will look for a tundra or something of that sort i guess.
Instead of Hummer go w/ a Knight
Or a CXT F650

Did it? When did that happen? Man, you REALLY HATE the Hummer. A few posts above sounds like you've thought of keying them before.
About being able to "pick out drivers of Hummers in a crowd", I'm sure people are thinking what I'm thinking & just don't want to say anything but weird that someone on a forum like RT would stereotype people for what they drive, we know better than anybody it's a shame when people say stuff like that. I bet there's people that say that of Bimmer or Porsche drivers.......Come on, lets have a live & let live attitude when it comes to vehicle choice, no?
Tom - I would have posted the CXT but the 650 is above the max I'd seriously consider for a vehicle & only when I move. I definitely want something BIG. For one it makes me feel safer about the wife & kids.. But for now, until I move I'm looking at buying either a Mercedes GL or the Escalade. I want one of the new Ram pick-ups but it doesn't make sense until we relocate to a place with a lot of work for a pick up. Want something that can a carry a quad. One of the great advantages to living someplace that has huge areas of open space, lots & lots of pavement & off road.

I had three Hummer loaners while vacationing in the US and I just loved them.
The Hummer is a dinosaur, a statement, a lifestyle. It may not be the perfect daily driver and it may not even be a good family car but it is fun to drive and to enjoy, even and especially off-road.
Hummer didn't have the right strategy, especially for non-US markets. They could have also used different engines with similar power but much less fuel/Diesel consumption. They never really seemed to care about it.
It is sad that this brand will die, the Hummer doesn't deserve it.
With the right engines, a slightly lower weight and at a more affordable price tag, they could survive in my opinion.

th original hummer h1 was produced by am general, the producer of the humvee. h2 and h3 are gm products and therefor a sub-brand of gm just like saturn and pontiac.
as rc stated above, while they are certainly not a refined quality product, they are iconic.
too bad to see them go.
Does everyone forget that it was Ahnold that got this thing on the road. And not many vehicles could challenge an H1 off-road, but I have always found them UGLY.
But no reason to hate them unless you also want to hate lambos for their gas mileage.
The big Ford is cool looking and the Transtar CXT and RXT are real pick-ups but just unpractical for anything but northern Maine or the dakota's and such.
Nope the best all-round, best value, best looking off-roaders are still JEEP!
and how about this one-off jeep made

Off road I regard a Disco 4 as the ultimate vehicle.
Defender IMO
Having tried both, I would definetely say the Disco. The Defender would frequently dig itself into thick mud, whereas the clever electronics of the Disco apportioned torque according to conditions.
