Amazing car. The best car in its class according to my friend who works for Motorpresse. He visited McLaren factory and according to data McLaren provided(videos and simulations) MP4-12C is faster then 458 Italia on the autobahn, country road and on the track. I belive this will be the case. Also, I like MP4-12C design as well.

Kreso,
You sound like your 458 order is under real threat of cancellation

It believe the MP4 12C will arguably make life much more difficult for Lamborghini than Ferrari. The Maranello brand has it's own special allure but for those people buying a car for outright performance the Mclaren will be hard to ignore. I'm guessing there will be a lot of concerned faces in Italy right about now but more of them will be at Sant'agata. I don't detect the same kind of brand loyalty amongst the new generation of Lamborghini owners for whom many it seems more of a fashion statement than an emotive driving purchase.
I wonder what's Ferdinand Piech's response will be by way of giving Lamborghini more VW group resources to ensure greater firepower for the Gallardo's replacement. It seems they are able to turn up the wick on the R8 at will (V10 variant, forthcoming GT3 style variant etc) so need to do something special with the next small Lambo to prevent their more fickle customers deserting the brand.Mclaren are certainly streets ahead in terms of weight reduction but considering they use turbos to get their HP output versus Ferraris NA route the engine isn't as far ahead in power terms as it might have been.
Iain,
I still like 458 very much and I am very much keen to get it. New MP4-12C is also on my list...
Just... New McLaren MP4-12C is in few important areas better car IMHO:
-overall MP4-12C will be as good for normal usage as 458 Italia
-MP4-12C design is just right IMHO, 458 Italia is excellent design-BUT, IMHO some things are strange looking
-enginewise MP4-12C is true masterpiece
..and I agree with you fully that most MP4-12C costumers will come from Gallardo/R8 V10 stable. Ferrari costumers are very brand loyal(even little bit too much IMHO).
My question is WHAT IF new MP4-12C beats 458 Italia in every performace aspect(acceleration, track times, driver involvement, sheer drive dynamic etc.)? What will then be a key element for choosing 458 Italia? Fact that it is a FERRARI?
McLaren used two examples of 458 for comparison and they are VERY confident that MP4-12C is better sportscar in areas I mentioned above...
IMHO we all can applaud to McLaren for bringging this sportcar to the market. Game is moved to another level. Competitors must react with new products in future...
P.S.
Are you still plan to get MP4-12C as well?
Kreso,
I registered my interest with Mclaren last year and if the opportunity to buy one comes up I shall consider it very, very carefully.
I agree that it looks like it will be the more technically competent car but as with the Gallardo, R8, 997 turbo etc I fear that may translate into crushing ability but no real soul making the car merely a quick conveyance rather than a fun toy. It's hard to bond with those sorts of cars as once you get over the initial thrill of the speed they become a little anodyne IMHO.
I'm hoping the 458 keeps enough of that unique "Ferrari" quality to make it a rewarding drive at all times like most of it's forebears. From reports I've had thus far it seems that is indeed the case.
In terms of design the 458 wins hands down for me.

In a choice like this one the fact of it "just being a Ferrari" means a lot, McL has indeed made a great product but its still the first car out of the line, and it will inevitably have issues. also resale value might not be the best if those issues come up. Other than that is the fact that you can have a Ferrari serviced or fixed anywhere in the world whereas the McL might still have some time to go before they get representatives everywhere that can respond to owners and their demands if anything were to happen to a car.
Its carbon tube is an advantage. The turbocharged engine though detracts from the alure and those figures are not that impressive given that Ferrari achieves similar levels with a comparable in size NA engine. At any rate, let's wait for the tests. But by that time the 458 Scuderia should be out.
my thought when was unveiled in last september was : "this is the new benchmark" and I think it will be also in real test. When will be 458 scuderia I guess also mclaren will adopt a lighter-racing version of mp4-12c.
Sounds very good to be a turbo engine and also design I like it more now than few months ago,you have to get used

I agree with you.
My current sportscar top list:
1. Ferrari 458 Italia & McLaren MP4-12C
2. Porsche 997.2 Turbo PDK & 997.2 Turbo S
3. Mercedes SLS AMG
No Audi you will ask? RS5-the best not-too-expensive sportscoupe on the market. S5 Sportback-the best mid size family sport saloon. Q5 3.0 TDI-my fav SUV. Should I continue.
