Black vs Stock wheels X6M (pls advise)

changed back to the stock M whels on my X6M as i am still not sure as to what looks better.

in terms of ride the stock wheels being 40 and 35 are more suited to our roads that 35 and 30 on the black 21'.

    so black or stock ?

Re: Black vs Stock wheels X6M (pls advise)

IMHO the black wheels looked smashing on the 5.0, but are a bit too dark for the M. maybe if you repainted the wheels on a dark shade of gray, maybe charcoal then it would look perfect. but if its strictly between these two, then i'd say to stick with the stock ones, just IMO. the overall car still looks amazing anyways

Re: Black vs Stock wheels X6M (pls advise)

thank enmanuel.....just my feeling as well. black suited the 50i better due to the sideskirts and black plastic applications....

Re: Black vs Stock wheels X6M (pls advise)

     Hi,

I have the same 21" wheels (in ferrite grey) on my white X6 and I find they look better but the 20" drive better. You loose so much ride comfort with the 21".

I also like the silver wheels much better than the black ones Smiley Much more elegant. The black rims are a bit too much for this car...

Re: Black vs Stock wheels X6M (pls advise)

can anyone confirm that the Bridgestone Dueler H/P Sport are NOT directional ?

there is no indication of direction on the tires. however, the threads look reversed when mounted. car was delivered with 2 (same thread fronts) and 2 (same thrad rears)

Re: Black vs Stock wheels X6M (pls advise)

Black ones looks more aggressive, but looking the two pics in comparison, maybe too much for this kind of car.

The stock ones are better of what i think.

My advice is to think about to make the black ones, painted in stone grey, maybe is a good compromise.

It seems they are not. Check this out

Re: Black vs Stock wheels X6M (pls advise)

    I prefer the stock wheels.

The black ones look real agressive, too much if you ask me, but also, because it is so dark down there, you lose all the sculpted features of a thoughtfully designed wheel. Also, with such large wheel arches it's challenging to get the proportions just right; this is more of a problem with the stock wheels since they clearly show the boundaries (arch v. wheels).

A lighter shade might help but how about some colour / white accents such as the circumferential white line on Super Darius' white TT. It might be enough to just break it up a bit.

I'm facing a similar dilema. I just bought a Speed Yellow C2S with the Porsche Lobster wheels. I'm not crazy about these wheels and will eventually upgrade. In the mean time however, an interim and far cheaper solution would be to paint the wheels black... so that the design disapears a bit. I'm just not sure if it will disapear enough

Re: Black vs Stock wheels X6M (pls advise)

The stock wheels look a bit better, but the black rims would be the best if they were gun metal. They both look good though.

Re: Black vs Stock wheels X6M (pls advise)

Black wheels look too dark on the M. I would go for the stock wheels.

Besides, 21" wheels are both uncomfortable and their road holding is worse.

Re: Black vs Stock wheels X6M (pls advise)

well seems most favour the stock m wheels. i do in a way too. the black wheels make the car look too flashy and 'wannabe'. funnily it worked great on the 50i. maybe cause that one looks less aggressive not having the large front intakes and the quad exhaust.

on th M the more subtle wheels look better. too bad i spent a little fortune on the black wheels/tires.

as i have both i will keep changing them every now and then....best of both worlds i guess.....

thank you everyone for your input

Re: Black vs Stock wheels X6M (pls advise)

I like the black wheels more, even if I seem to be the only one?! It seems that the pictures doesn`t make justice, and they look much darker than in real life because of shadow and brightness? I think it suits perfectly with the shadow line. Keep them for summer tires, and keep the oem wheels for winter and snow. ok ok, that will never happen in your place.

Yes, painting the original wheels in charcoal could look terrific. How about some photoshop jobs first ?! Smiley

Re: Black vs Stock wheels X6M (pls advise)

i definitely prefer the shape of the black wheels. If the colour bothers you, +1 on what Emannuel says.

Re: Black vs Stock wheels X6M (pls advise)

The shape of the black wheels is very "nervous", it makes the whole shape of the car "nervous", can't explain it better.
Maybe some nice photoshop jobs with both wheels would help.

Here's gunmetal color. Not sure if I got the color right (seems to be slightly green-ish) but at least you get an idea.

Definitely stock. They look nice and clean and fit the vehicle perfectly. The black ones just look out of place IMO.

Re: Black vs Stock wheels X6M (pls advise)

RC got the right idea... But maybe the car should be another color

Re: Black vs Stock wheels X6M (pls advise)

White and STOCK, bring out the car's nice lines more!

Re: Black vs Stock wheels X6M (pls advise)

RC, i saw that one on xbimmers too. he pimpd it quite a bit.

i guess the main problm is that the wheels that i bought (can't remember if 214 or 215) are too aggressive.

i had thought about them for the 50i and did not get them cause they always seemed a bit too jap style for me.......

lesson learned ! always stick to first impression

Re: Black vs Stock wheels X6M (pls advise)

The best wheels would be something similar to those on the  Porsche Turbo.2

Basically silver but with dark grey or black accents. My opinion
