997 is certainly the better car when it comes to driving. nevertheless the 993 is special in many ways. especially the turbo.

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

997 the much better car, but it will depreciate

993 a very good looking car, more for cruising , but you will be able to sell it at the same price as you bought it.

So... what is the most important to you ? money or performance ?

Guys, I keep clicking on this thread hoping to see more 991 news and all I get are comments on 993 and 997 models...how about moving this discussion to a new thread?

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

I have to agree with David on the 993 being aesthetically the one to have. In my opinion the 993 exhibits a certain quality in design and build that will make it one of the 911s that stands the test of time.

I have never driven a 997 myself so I really can't speak to its merits. I'm sure that is more of a complete package if that is what one is looking for. I still don't think that the 997 has that bulletproof feeling that the 993 has, excluding the windshield creaks. The 993 was built before the penny pinchers came to town and your ears will even feel the vacuum when you close the door in a 993.

Make sure you check the inside of the 993 before you pulle the trigger. It looks very old and dated, unlike the exterior...

Sorry all, didn't mean the hijack; I guess that, with all the enthusiasm around, it can get out of hand quite easily.

LAST comment, to put this to rest: Leaning towards the 997, in spite of potential $$ loss. I just love to drive these things too much to let one sit in the garage all week and I wouldn't feel as comfortable putting that many miles / km on a 993. Thanks for all the comments

I guess it's been quiet on the 991/998 front. Good move Atz

Good to see that you evaluated your choices properly and picked the more suitable solution for your use. Black on Tan is beautiful and you will love the 997 Smiley

Thanks for posting the new pics.  Will someone explain again what differences you see between the current 997 series and the new series?  I have read about the longer wheelbase, and the possibility of  a 4.0L engine, but what else am I missing here?

I have also heard that Piech reviewed the new changes and told the designers they had not been bold enough.  Thoughts on all of this?

I have also heard that Piech reviewed the new changes and told the designers they had not been bold enough.  Thoughts on all of this?

It sounds perfectly resonable to me that under the VW control, the boses will make some more bold changes. It is in their interest to preserve the 911 legend, and using technological innnovations they could "bring it back" In terms of outperforming the Ferraris and the cheaper american attempts (ZR1) . IMO i'd like to see the 911 brand return to sport such that the turbo will outperform the F458. In return the 928/Panamera Coupe can fill the luxory slot for P customers. In addition, i hear the Cayman product will get a bump up meaning they will finally put sportier engines in the VERY potent chassis of the Boxster/Caymen.

Really hoping for a 4.0L as it is already been running in the 997, but i think the automotive history is right on the verge of a big shift. No longer will we see the increased engine sizes we have pretty much since the 1920s (before i guess they had some crazy 16 cylinder 2.0L engines) The new M5 is a big step showing the return to V8 from V10. I think this is quite a new concept and will dramatically alter the next decade of cars. Mercedes will follow along too soon. the 63AMG replaced the 55 however, we'll see smaller engines soon i believe under the same name. 65AMG is "only" a 6.0L . MB used to have a 73AMG Smiley

In all, changes.... i think slightly longer wheelbase (they are growing, so are we haha) but smaller overhangs along with a wider track. Along with visual updates will make the standard 911 look and feel in GT3 territory. I am hoping for a bigger rear wing ala 993TT but we'll likely see a very stupid flimsy Panamera style retractable thingy...

Engines are up in the air, with the emissions reduction objectives maybe for the first time we won't see increase across the range. maybe there will be more options. 3.6L Carrera, 3.8L Carrera S and 4.0L Carrera CS. I suspect many new technological features and new suspension symmetry as well as high-tech transmissions and AWDs for the 4s and TTs.

Still hoping for CGT elements but it will be a tough blend and well the CGT is maturing Smiley

We haven't seen a Turbo PDK (or more a future TurboS) comparison with the 458, yet. So why do you doubt the current range Smiley

    1. Reverse light a la CGT, meaning the LED main light clusters might become very tiny and compact/high-tech.

    2. Parking sensors integration into the bumpers...

    that's my guess..
