Adios Hot Pepper .... et Viva El 911

I'm back to the 911 world.

    Cayenne S (05) is gone, I "exchanged" it for a 91, 964 C2 Coupe.

Cayenne S is a wonderful machine but a financial disaster. I lost € 35k in 36 months .... whilst this 19 years old 911 is moving up in value ..... Bottom line I swapped a 2005 Cayenne S fully loaded with all the goodies and 75,000 km on the clock for a 91, 964 C2 Coupe with 190,000 km on the clock plus € 5,000 !!!! There must be something wrong with the Cayenne !!!!

It's funny to drive an "old" car, it reminds me of my young days .... when I owned a 964 (C2 Cab) in the late 90's. The car feels exactly the same. It seems the 964 is un-destructible, it feels rock solid.... DSC03803_2.jpg

many congrats Eric!! its a beautiful car and I take it much more rewarding to drive than the pepper

    Congratulations! Smiley

Will you use it as a daily driver?

Air-cooled 911s are eminently repairable, so even starting out with 190,000 km is still a calculable risk.

Re: Adios Hot Pepper .... et Viva El 911

Congratulations Eric Smiley    964 C2 is my favorite 911 of the past .

Re: Adios Hot Pepper .... et Viva El 911

Congratulations !!! For Paris, I would have chosen a tank    but the 964 is a great choice too. Yes, the resale value of the Cayenne is absolutely horrible, I won't even tell you how much I got for my 3 years old Cayenne Turbo S. The Turbo models have an even lower resale value. Absolutely ridiculous. In my opinion, used Cayenne are "doomed" in Europe (mainly in Germany though), hopefully the new Cayenne is going to change that.

The 964 was the last fully handmade 911 (it took 9 times longer to build than a 996).  It doesn't just feel rock solid - it IS rock solid.  CongratulationsSmiley

    Congrats Eric, great choice!

My first Porsche experience was with a 964 Carrera 4 and I still love that car whenever one drives by.

     Congratulations!  Looks lovely

..we have similar tastes - my first Porsche, a C4 - and as Rossi says, I'm always listening for a nice air-cooled 911

Looking forward to hearing your driving impressions and seeing some more pictures hopefully.

All cars, including the Cayenne, have terrible resale value in the US.

Early 911's are doing great. I've been seeing some 1967-73 911S's trade for 6 figures lately.

Re: Adios Hot Pepper .... et Viva El 911

Thanks very much to all of you for your very kind words.

For Grant: In France a very nice 72-73 2.4l S is worth around € 50-60k !!! a 2.4l E is around € 40-50k .... It seems the 964 is finally taking-off in terms of value. Over the past 2 years it gained like 10-15% ... for sure the RS and the Speedster are in a different league ....

Yes, the 964 C2 will be my "daily" driver even if I mostly use a scooter in Paris.... so it's going to be a type of "weekend" car.

Now my garage is made of 2 old and unpractical cars .... the 1991 964 C2 and a 1979 Lancia Beta Spider plus a scooter which is not the best for a family of 4 adults (my kids are 17 and 15).

We have decided that we will rent a car when we go on vacation otherwise the 964 or the lancia will do the trick ....

For those who are not very familiar with the Lancia Beta Spider here is a pic a of a car similar to mine (except the color, mine is blue)BetaSpider2000_1980_1.jpeg

Re: Adios Hot Pepper .... et Viva El 911

My first car was a Lancia Beta Coupe 2.0 at age 18, merely 26 years ago. Great car, bought it used for 8000 DM but dealer forgot to check engine oil level when he sold me the car and the engine was destroyed after 200 km. Dealer took car back, he was a customer of my parents and I got...a Fiat 127 Sport. Not the same power league but with 75 HP and a weight of 750 kg, a real little devil.

Watch out with that scooter. I have a relative working in Paris as a doctor and she told me that she saw lots of serious scooter accidents, incl. deaths. Be careful out there...

Re: Adios Hot Pepper .... et Viva El 911

Thanks RC for your kind words.

I have had scooters for many years now and you're right it can be extremely dangerous ... I try to drive as safely as possible and to have a very defensive approach. Everytime I ask myself, what can go wrong what this car can do? .... So far I had a minor accident once and it was 100% my fault.

My Lancia is nice to drive it's not a sports car BUT I quite like it with 120hp for 900kg .... it's an old lady now ... so I don't go too hard on her.
