Re: BMW F10 5 series official pictures

Goes to show that designers are ultimately employees , not artists . Need I remind you that new BMW design chief  Adrian Van Hooydonk, who you see on stage above ,  was the one who penned the prev 7 and 6 series , with it's  flame surfacing ( now copied  on just about anything "upscale " ) and the  " Bangle Butt"   that Bangle was convinced to sign off on.

" Hooydonk Butt" was too hard for the typical spelling impaired internet bench racer , so BB stuck.

So here is his forced " mea culpa " of going back to a safer , more conventional design language and calling it " Charismatic " , probably through gritted teeth as that's is what some marketing dept flack came up with.

Re: BMW F10 5 series official pictures

I must say that option list is quite impressive! But I also expected to see at least couple of those options in standard equipment.

But the prices! OMG Bmw is really fleecing us on this one! Can't wait to se the US configurator... this is pretty crazy!

Sorry I made a mistake, I wanted to say SMG.... which is the most annyoing system for a daily driver and family car.

I am sure they will use DKG, which will be great... I hope at least... since it seems this gear box isnt ready by now... when you look on the X5M and X6M.

Re: BMW F10 5 series official pictures

The new 5 Series is expensive but compared to the 7 series a nicely optionned 730d already costs 100.000 Euros on the French market .

Re: BMW F10 5 series official pictures

    Perfect for me!

I had the new 7 last weekend as test car. I really love the 7 as I said it many times before. But - sitting back into my 535d, I was feeling to sit in a race car! So much more "handy" and more direct. After seeing the picture of this new 5 I really know that this will be the car I will wait for. the look is amazing, the new features like Integral Steering (rear wheel steering) will make it the greatest and handiest car ever in this class!

    I love it!

Re: BMW F10 5 series official pictures

The 550i is an interesting offer. For 70000 EUR plus lets say around 10000 EUR in options, meaning 80000 EUR, you get a decent and very sporty/fast limousine.

Taking a look at the Panamera S, it would be more than 30000 EUR more with similar options. Insane. Not even mentioning the fact that the 5 series is a five-seater and not a four-seater like the Panamera.

Right now, the Panamera S looks even worse comparing it to the new BMW 550i.

Same here Smiley  New 5 series offers almost everything as 7 series, got very similar interior (big step forward compared to E60), and got better driving dynamics than 7 series. Next year when M package will be available (in November) and twin turbo diesel engine (535d / 540d) I will defenetly visit my dealer. New 530d is faster than old 535d (E60). So new 535d/540d wil be very fast Smiley

Re: BMW F10 5 series official pictures

@RC: you are right with your Panamera / 5 Series comparisson. Also, many features are not available at Porsche - active Speedlimit display, death angle radar, active steering control, integral steering, internet, Assist Service, etc etc.

Again - Porsche is with its electronical gadgets miles behind the standard. Most of above features I already had in a 3 series (e90) 5 years ago! It might be ok for sportscars, but in the luxury segment its a must to have those gadgets!

@Shakal: I really wanted to go for the seven, but after seeing this new 5 I will probably wait one more year and order next Autumn a new one with M-Package and all those beloved gadgets. As you say - M-package is coming in November 2010 and this is a must have for my next one. Also, the new 540d, sounds very promising!

Re: BMW F10 5 series official pictures

good points guys, but it's just that 10000€ for options for 5series woun't buy you much joy...

I got to 23k, AND I wasn't even touching the fancy new gadgets like dynamic rear wheels They should have at least made xenon, metallic and alarm standard... hahaha

True. 550i with full options is above 95K € in Germany.

Re: BMW F10 5 series official pictures

    Let me see:

    BMW 550i - 70500 EUR

    Innovation Package 2950 EUR

    Steptronic "Upgrade" 150 EUR

    Adaptive Drive 3000 EUR

    Integral Active Steering 1750 EUR

    Metallic Color 980 EUR

    V-Spoke Rims 1600 EUR

    Sport Seats 580 EUR

    Sport Steering Wheel 140 EUR

    Sunroof 1330 EUR

BMW Individual Sun Protection Glas 350 EUR

    PDC 810 EUR

    Rear View Camera 420 EUR

    Surround View 700 EUR

    Alarm 480 EUR

    Ski bag 100 EUR

BMW Navigation Professional incl. Bluetooth for Cellphone 3800 EUR

    Rear Entertainment Professional 2600 EUR

    HIFI System Professional 980 EUR

    USB Audio 300 EUR

    SUM: 93280 EUR.

Yes, indeed, 10000 EUR worth of options wouldn't suffice.

Still: at 93280 EUR, I usually get a 10% rebate at my BMW dealer, meaning that the car costs me around 84000 EUR.

    The Panamera S costs 95000 EUR...NAKED.

Substract lets say 5% off the 95000 EUR, you get 90500 EUR. Again: NAKED. NO options.

Add the same options (oops...most 5 series options aren't available for the Panamera) to the Panamera S and you'll easily pass 110000 EUR.

Of course the Panamera should be compared to the 7 series and not the 5 series but since it has 4 seats only... Smiley

Currently a 14-16% rebate is even realistic, which will bring you down somewhere by 80000!

Dont forget - most gadgets are not even available at Porsche!

Well...I didn't want to exaggerate. Smiley

For slightly over 80000 EUR, almost fully loaded, the 550i seems to be a real bargain.

From a performance point of view, 5.0 seconds from 0-100 kph are great too.

Re: BMW F10 5 series official pictures

5.0 seconds is as fast as a Carrera 997.1 Convertible. Fair enough!
For me - I 'm waiting for the 540d. Or - even the new hybrid, which for sure is below 5.0 0-100! The machine sounds very promissing the the seven and if it performs the same way in the five.... wow!

Re: BMW F10 5 series official pictures

Speaking of hybrids: I was thinking about getting the X6 Hybrid instead of the X6 M but looking at the advantage regarding fuel consumption and reading two reviews, I decided against it. Not worth it and performance is also worse because of the additonal 200 kg, despite the 485 HP engine.

    Christian,

Very interesting since our local BMW importer will give max. 7% of discount for order of new 550i.

I agree fully with you that 550i looks like bargin in comparison with Panamera S.

Just... I would go personally for Audi S4 Avant or S5 Sportback(both with S Tronic and full options) for even less money.

ok - the 200kg extra is a point, I havent seen so far.

Actually I prefer the system out of the 7, which works a bit different as the one in the X6. The 7 uses only a small LiPo Battery, and the electrical engine is used for acceleration only, vs the X6 works more like a full Hybrid.

I have seen the Tests on the X6 that the consumption promissed by BMW was not taken by far. On the 7 Hybrid, I couldnt find a Test yet!
