    GT3RS Aqua.JPG

The Canada Porsche configurator now has the GT3 RS.

    Some interesting things:

Lightweight headlights are an option (13+ lbs weight savings)

Lithium Ion battery is an option (22 lbs weight savings)

Radio/PCM delete is an option (no cost)

Air-con delete is an option (no cost)

Colours are white, black grey and aqua blue metallic. Contrast colours are guards red and white gold. The Aqua blue with white gold is very striking! With White gold selected, the roll cage stays painted black, it's painted red if that is selected.

Evo magazine: "Porsche GT3 RS laps Ring" (by Chris Harris)

    (26 October 2009)

    2010-Porsche-911-GT3-RS_Black+Grey-01_Evo-Chris-Harris.jpg

New Porsche 911 GT3 RS laps the Nürburgring Nordschleife in a rather quick time...

Porsche loves the low key approach to Nordschleife time-attacks, and last week's session to see what the new 997 GT3 RS could manage was no exception.

Armed with a stopwatch, a crash hat, an RS and a sizeable pair of testicles, an unnamed Porsche test driver clocked a 7min33sec lap - that's seven seconds faster than the cooking GT3. He did this in some light traffic, and pulling data from earlier laps showed that the theoretical 'best lap' would have been 7m30s.

That compares to the Nissan GT-R’s 7m27.56s, while quicker lap records lie with the Gumpert Apollo (7m11.57s) and Radical SR8LM (6m48s), the latter a time that we helped set a couple of months ago.

Not that Porsche cares too much about the relative speed of the competition, or that the Corvette ZR1 and Nissan GT-R have all gone faster. I tried to coax them into making a few catty comments about the Americans and the Japanese, but it seems they've had enough of that banter.

There's one question I'd like answered though - what's the longevity of these road cars at such insane speeds. I mean, how many laps can a 1740kg GTR do sub-7m30s before the brakes melt and the tyres go pop? Likewise the 'Vette. I reckon we should push for a 4-lap challenge from now on. Were it possible, I reckon the Porsche might just get the job done.

I'm searching hard but I couldn't find yet the option code for the "sizeable pair of testicles" (SPT ?) - seems to be a rather helpful option Smiley

I’m just wondering how much faster it would be shaving the 30+kg’s from the car with at optional light carbon CGT seats (-10kg), lithium ion battery (-10kg), lightweight headlights (-6kg) and pcm/radio delete (no official weight savings listed but has to be at least 5 kg). 70 or so lbs has to be good for at least a second a lap around the ring…

Achim, by now, you should know that PAG would not give it such a down to earth name!
Off course, the abbreviation starts with "P", to indicate that it is a Porsche invention. Then to arbitrary letters, and then ending with an "S", for "System".
Probably should look for PEES (Porsche Eier Enhancement System) or something of the kind... :D :an

ROFL Smiley I think it must be PTE (Porsche Testicular Enhancement). Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be a retrofit Tequipment item Smiley

Re: Chris Harris Previews GT3 RS

P-J: about the Cup car, of course there are improvements with the latest model but, essentially, the 996 Cup car I sat in was a very similar kind of visceral experience  All I can say is that, even as a mere passenger, I felt truly alive. My senses were being stimulated at once in an extreme way.

I was reading my local Wharf newspaper yesterday. There was an interesting quotation from the film producer/director, Michael Winner, that I really liked. He said that "the purpose of life is to avoid boredom". I think that says it all really. And what better way of avoiding boredom can there be than driving a 997.2 GT3 RS or a 997 Cup car?
