Speed Industries
A good friend of mine runs a company called Speed Industries. And they just what the name says :) I was at one of their trackdays a few months ago when I deliberately forgot my DSLR camera so that I would be chilled out a bit more, but a friend of mine had a small sony camcorder and I thought I'd play around with it.
I then thought it might be a nice idea to film on the Nordschleife, because that is normally prohibited on public days, but since we had the track for two whole days, we could do pretty much whatever we wanted. So I shot this. It is kinda long winded, but on purpose. Nordschleife is normally a heavily occupied track on public days, with overcrowded traffic and motorcyclists shooting past in almost all directions. I wanted to use this teaser to show the exclusivity of the trackdays that the company offered. So during almost the entirety of the video, the track is empty. For those who have been to the Nordschleife, having a free track is priceless.
Having shot this clip, we pulled out to the pits where I saw a Swiss friend of mine Christian who drives an Audi R8. I yelled over to him to drive in front while we chased him as well, but for some reason the camera stopped recording towards the end of the clip. I think the vibrations from the hood of the chasecar caused it to shut down.
A few months later, when I had done a little bit of work with the drift scene, I thought I'll try and see what I can do with a proper semi professional video camera and grip events. So I headed to the next Speed Industries event, held at Anneau du Rhin, pretty much their home track.
I asked a good friend of mine Dino Rockstroh if he could take me for a few hotlaps of the track in his track spec, stripped out, yet streetable Nissan S14. He was testing out a new ECU mapping. We did three and a half laps and then the exhaust temperature went off the scale do we decided to cut loose a little bit. But for the three and half laps we were on track, it was total annihilation.
At the end of that day, I tested out a camcorder. Unfortunately I had just 10 mins of time before we closed off for the weekend, so the clip is awfully short. I hope you dont fall asleep ;)
Recently Tobias Welti who runs Speed Industries held their first Time Attack event. I went along to film another montage. Here it is..
I hope you've enjoyed. This is pretty much all the videos in my backlog right now, but I'll post more as they come. Cheers! Alok
