    GT3 Delivery - PCCB bedding?

Hi, I am collecting my GT3 MkII on Monday.  One reads so much about the pros and cons of PCCB this issue never seems to go away.  I chose basis my experience using 997 such equipped in Leipzig, never had problems.  On the other hands I cooked my 997S steels brakes in Silverstone and Brands National.

Should I bed my PCCBs in at all, bearing in mind I would need to do this in Central London (!!!) somehow.

My personal opinion: even in Central London you might be able to enjoy the unique pedal feel only PCCB can offer. Also, you won't have any durability, noise or wet handling issues with the latest generation PCCB. Go for it Smiley

Re: GT3 Delivery - PCCB bedding?

My understanding is that brakes on the GT3 can be bedded in - whether they are PCCB or steel discs - for the benefit of the brake pads. Following a bedding in procedure can help to avoid glazing the pads, reduces squeaking from pads around town and makes the brake pedal feel more progressive. As an added benefit, it also seems to adjust the biting point on the brake pedal to allow simpler "heal-n-toe" gear changes around town, while using less than full braking pressure.

One example of a good location to bed in brakes around town is a couple of roundabouts linked up by dual-carriageway, which provides appropriate space and road driving conditions for repetitive graduated retardation... 1254588282626F458-burnout.gif

Many congrats and all the best with the new GT3! Look forward to hearing your first impressions...

Be interested to hear about your first impressions with the car. I dont get mine until next June, but at the moment i am trying to decide to go for PCCB or stick with the steel brakes.

Re: GT3 Delivery - PCCB bedding?

As I mentioned I had normal steels on my 997S Mk1 and cooked them twice.  I never cooked PCCBs on the Leipzig track, and it was not for lack of trying believe me.  As for the new GT3 steels, frankly I think it really depends on use.  I want the car for the track and nothing else really, otherwise a total waste of money for the road, even if you track twice a year.

Anyhow car tomorrow eve, but weather is wet in London for the next couple of days, and anyway central London is still central London!

Re: GT3 Delivery - PCCB bedding?

If you track a lot, PCCB's are worth the cost, because it will save you from replacing steel rotors since they should last "forever".

On the other hand, not ticking the PCCB option leaves quite some money for steel disk replacement en using other brake pads etc.

I would go for the steel brakes with the new GT3, I honestly think you cannot compare the 997S brakes with the new GT3 brakes. If you do trackdays and no races, they shouldn't fade. Plus avoiding the accidental replacement cost of PCCB disks when somethin goes wrong (exiting the track, ceramic disks can't stand sand or other dirt).

I've driven the new GT3 with stock brakes and was amazed at the pedal feel (PCCB-like !), progressive response and aggressive stopping power

Re: GT3 Delivery - PCCB bedding?

Ok just collected it and drove for only 5 mile, this car is a complete beast.  Whereas I always felt on top of my 997S, I really feel intimidated by my GT3.  The roar in Sports is unbelievableSmiley 11, the whole car is visceral in the extreme, more so than the Mk1 I had driven.

As I mentioned on another forum, my old 997S even with lowered suspension felt it "counter-sank" in turns compared to this, whereas the GT3 tilts on a level plane with a lower center of gravity.  You can really feel the difference there.  The gearbox is heavy duty, therefore a bit slower and short shift but better and more solid.

One problem is pedal placement on RHD, I cannot get to the foot rest without touching the clutch, very annoying.

Not enough time for brake feel, although felt extremely good, and certainly not a chance in the world to jam them for proper bedding in in Central London!

Sport bucket seats are excellent but have only 1 posture, a take or leave proposition so make sure they suite you, they are very good for me as long as I do not slouch.

I finished my other message by saying I felt in a cage rather than in control, I am in awe at the beast!Smiley 20

Wait!  No picture unless you want dodgy b&w at night time since collection only happened after dark, and the car just so happens to be flat black as well.

On the other hand, tonight will be the night!

Re: GT3 Delivery - PCCB bedding?

Thanks, I am quite in awe of the pics myself, has not sunk in yet that I own this!

Actually I did not realise that I uploaded the full wack, if you click on the pictures twice you will get the full pix view.  You should do it on the wing to see the "3.8" in detail, quite nice to see the wax still there and the water dropplets inside the 8!

You will also see that the footrest on besides the clutch is practically buried into the central tunnel.

Finally you can note the seat belt B pillars painted red, very subtle but with the red harness and central console I believe will just do the trick.

Unfortunately no driving until Saturday since off on a business trip, I should hopefully get the driver's harness in on that day.  Will see about the passenger one, have one but I need my wife's approval for it.  After all she will be the one using that seat!  Where is a track when you need one!

Many thanks to everyone.  Now the beautiful girlfriend needs to become my tracking wife (with the husband in control of course!).  It will not be easy, but I very hope it will be pleasurable!

Re: GT3 Delivery - PCCB bedding?

Also I love how the yellow calipers and the black paint match!

Re: GT3 Delivery - PCCB bedding?

Ditto!  With those wheels and the PCCB it looks ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!  Congrats!

Re: GT3 Delivery - PCCB bedding?

Many thanks to everyone.  The dealer told me to ease up on the red bits inside if I took the harness, otherwise there would have been more, he was right of course.

By the way the camera used is a Nikon D3, which explains the photos and the excellent details considering this came off a flash light.

PS, gotta love those cams right? I took some pictures of a flower in pitch black with a flash, and the pictures came out really nicely...
