My impression of the 997 wipers set in the stage 1: rain sensing mode based on the windshield sensor. What I have seen is the wipers are slow to respond to rain and is less responsive at night. I have a 2002 BMW X5 with the same wiper system and its slow to respond to rain as well. Is it weak technology?

There is an lever on the wiper stalk that adjusts the sensitivity to rain - mine can go from lazy to hyper active at the extremes. Have you been able to try both extremes on the lever ? In the UK it rains so much, it gets extensive use, maybe with better weather in the US it forgets how to work ??

I have tried both positions on the wiper stalk. Mine acts the same as yours from lazy to extreme. My previous C4 Cab acted in the same manner, just plain lazy. I wish there was an aftermarket part to convert that rocker switch to the manual intermittent style of wiper. I live in Connecticut and the amount of rain we've experienced this summer makes the the UK my next summer destination.
