All Porsches get the race-style paddle shifts, as options, starting in January.
I wouldn't sacrifice the MF wheel for the paddles. The current interface suits me fine. Never encountered a problem in almost a year and 15.000kms of use.
Tell me what MF function do you use most oftenly? Volume control maybe? That is my case with all MF steering wheels.
IMHO new paddle sport steering wheel is much better option. I really wanted to like switches(aka puddles) but, I can not force myself to love them. You bought your car when paddle steering wheel was not an option. Just for your info-Porsche expect around 80% of future PDK buyers(of 997.2 series and Cayman/Boxster) to choose paddle steering wheel instead of all versions of switches steering wheel.
Remember a word that W.Rohrl actually worked on design on switches steering wheel? Interesting enough he said at Estoril:"...that Porsche is finally offering true paddles sport steering wheel which is ergonomically much better then the ones with rocker swithces for changing gears." Hmm...
I use the telephone a lot when I am in the car especially in traffic and the MF helps a lot. Also when using audio changing source and radio stations on the move is very easy (and safer) with MF.
I cannot see why they don't a offer a paddle MF wheel I think it's marketing again: MF+buttons=comfort; paddles w/o MF=sporty.
Porsche limit buyers' choice in this way, for no reason.
