hhaha only because gtr owners got together was Nissan forced to bring the LC2 system and reburce LC1 owner with a new warranty. Pretty poor performance, but then again its Nissan!

indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine.. I happen to like both :)

Sure, BMW never had issues with their 168hp machine from god (ahem), but then they hit 300hp+ with the E46 M3 and guess what, they got engine issues... which also resulted in lawsuits if I recall correctly. Don't be so quick at pointing fingers at Nissan. I'm not blasting BMW, 'cause they're great machines, but it goes to show that no company is immune to this sort of issue, no matter where your allegiance may lay!

You are absolutely right Geoff, but this story shows Nissan still has a long way to go until they are a really trustworthy sportscar maker (let alone a Porsche killer).

A colleague (GTR owner actually) told me about a conversation he had with a Mercedes employee: apparently, Mercedes ran into similar difficulties with gear-box/drive-train temperature as Nissan when developing the new gear-box for the SLS. Mercedes then decided to install a pretty complex (and expensive) water cooling system for the gear-box/drive-train of the new SLS. This seems to do the trick.
Apparantely, the air based cooling system in the GTR is (while being cost effective) likely to be permanently flawed: the air cooling cannot work properly under more extreme air temperature and/or heavy usage conditions. It seems that the lower development/production costs carry a heavy burden...

Good question! Unfortunately, I don't know
Advanced air cooling. BUT, GT-R problem is complicated AWD that is pushing its DCT over its limits. On 997.2 models PDK is tested against any kind of abuse. In fact Sport+ is very agressive programm so, Porsche apparently tested PDK very, very much indeed.
