REALZEUS:
Interesting. Kreso have you got any inside info on whether or not it is going to have a 4WD system after all? Earlier reports were precluding that possibility. Same question also for the forthcoming Scirocco R.
According to German Press release Golf R is AWD while forthcoming Scirocco R is FWD only. Makes sense if you ask me...

In real life more like 6+ s. The TTS has been clocked at 5.7 but then again that car is lighter than the Golf. Thanks for the info mate!
If it is launched properly by "launch control", TTS with DSG does 0-100 km/h in 5,2 sec.

Golf's are always fun little cars. I wonder if they're going to bring this one to the states.
I read today the answer is Yes (both 3 and 5 door versions). Hope it comes with cloth Recaros and no sunroof standard for well under $30k. Could be a nicer option than Mitsubishi Evo or Subaru WRX/STI. Do the new Golf GTI's have nice steering? I need to test-drive one...

I don't think that the various testers launch it otherwise but still it gets 5.7s.
Same with the TTRS (roadster version though), got clocked at 5.4s. Coupe should be able to be close to 5-5.2s.
KresoF1:
Scirocco R is FWD, Golf R is AWD. That is really big difference since Golf R is using latest Haldex.
Golf R is by far my favourite hot hatch.
Drove Focus RS and I expect much, much more from it...
Interesting comment about the Focus RS. I had in mind that it was ....much much more.....

In short-despite front LSD torque steer still present. Wet traction worsts then expected. Above 220km/h no acceleration! I truly doubt that it can reach 263km/h! Test car with 4000km on clock and in great condition. Very good on slow and mid speed curves, not so in fast ones... IMHO strange car...

The golf R is out over here 266 bhp 4wd and 0-60 in 5.7.
They can be remapped on simple stage 1 to 312 bhp using u.s 91 or uk 95 octane fuel, obviously swapping turbo intake pipes and adding performance air filters help up this number vw has really got it's act togther with regards to making a turbo 4wd golf.
Theres videos of the mk5 apr's edition 30 conversion, which is just a k04 turbo plus other bits from the S3 / Ed30 and a remap on 100 octane fuel and it's not far off the audi R8 which it's racing.
--------
With regards to golfs.....
I'm having some serious issues with the throttle on my 1999 1.8T gti, no fault codes, and it's remapped, and the limiters being increased to 7200 rpm, it's a cable throttle with a motor on throttle aswell.
It started not reving to the limiter it would hit 7rpm and sort of stop, so i checked codes none came up, so i did a throttle adaptation, after the difference was amasing it felt like it had been remapped again.
Well after a month it did it again, and now a few weeks later it's started doing it again so this is the 3rd time i've had to adapt the throttle and again i can't beileve how much power this is robbing me
Somethings not right it's either the throttles on it's way out or the ecu is ''forgetting'' the throttles settings?
It idles perfect and it's not throwing any codes the throttle is £287 and it's an expensive thing to replace if it doesnt cure this problem.
I have found another way to adapt the throtte with the engine running instead of igntion on engine off, i just hope this other way works, i'm tempted to open it up and clean the resisance scale inside but theses things werent designed to be fixed! just replaced which would be good if it was throwing a code.
Things seem to be falling apart just lately

in Germany the car is based with 38250,- € including DSG and many other things. It seems the car is pretty complete and after adding some more extras you will have a fascinating, fast and complete car for around 45.000,-
Totally worth it.
Agreed 99%.
What about remaining 1¸%? That is my personal sceptics about how much better Golf R is then cheaper FWD only Scirocco R... Someone I trust very much(a personal friend and car press member) told me that actually Scirocco R is more involving car. So, if you do not need extra space and AWD Scirocco R may be a nice alternative...
OR you can always have an Audi TTS coupe which is 272 hp and AWD has standart options such as Bi-Xenon, Magnetic ride, heated seats, auto A/C, 18" wheels, alum. trim, leather/alcantara sports seats.

Sorry, but you are talking about much, much more expensive car.
As Lars pointed out Golf R DSG with full options costs 45K €. On the other hand TTS Coupe S Tronic with full options costs more then 60K €.
Kreso,
You are mistaken here. A TTS coupe with DSG, parktronic, light pack, and USB costs 40.000 Euro (exc. VAT) as a list price. You get around 10% discount, at least.
Only thing you may want to add is navi.

TTS Coupe S Tronic costs 47850€ in Germany with Mwst(base price). With full options(Navi, Bose, etc.BUT NO full leather) it costs 55175€ with Mwst.
Golf R DSG base price is 38275€ with Mwst. With full options(same options as on TTS-just, leather included) it costs 45895€ with Mwst.
See the difference? Ok, it is not 15K €, it is 10K €.
