    Well, officially they claim "around 600" which would allow for deviations. Rumours say less than 600 though. Also we will have to see the actual performance figures in independent tests. I reckon close to the 458 but 2 years later than the Ferrari! By that time the 458 Scuderia will be getting ready to be released and the goal posts will have moved once again...

    2011, that is too late. 458 will be actually available in 2010 though.

    Actually Kreso I knew about the ram effect!  127CV/litre is an amazing feat for the 458! Not impressed by Macca's output (I would have preferred a NA engine to be honest)... Also keep in mind that delivery of the McLaren will be much later than the start of sales... It will have the 458 Scuderia to compete with...

    Look, IMO both 458 Italia and MP4-12C are fantastic cars. I like both. Pretty much whatever you choose you can not go wrong.Smiley

    ah ok thanks.I know about ferrari but I didn't have correct info about mclaren...I suppose other wheels and sort of aero-kit will be available later for mclaren as optionals..or I hope so Smiley

    Ferrari is the defining car in this segment. Even a few HP or a 1/10th here and there(if at all) wouldn't be enough to sway someone away from the Standard. And I am not a Ferrari fan!

    This comment can be applicable to several supercars like Murcielago (and to a lesser extent Gallardo), Zonda, Koenigsegg, Bugatti etc. I believe that Ferraris are striking for sure, but also have some classic timeless elements and don't go over the top in terms of design. The same with the Carrera GT.

    They seem really concerned by CO2 BS. US market could care less about that. My guess is they are looking to steal euro customers from Aston and gallardo buyers to reach their 1000 units. Front does look like 458 though.

    Bland design and small engine displacement muted by turbo's may result in lousy sound. Does seem well built and engineered. Dull sound and appearance but well built - appeal to engineers?

    Design is timeless,IMO,  almost as good as the original. I guess that's why we see it as bland. But I must say I like it way more than I thought I would. Engine, also sounds like a jewl! :-)

    It will be interesting to see the Maintenence Schedule on the new McLaren.  As I remember, the upkeep on the McLaren F1 was crazy.

    - New clutch every 4-5k miles at a cost of 30,000 GBP

    - Full servicing every 12,000 miles at a cost of 25,000 GBP

    - Replace fuel bladder every 5 years requiring disassembly of the entire car at a cost of 125,000 GBP

    I also wonder if the new car will have Satellite Telemetry for remote troubleshooting from anywhere in the world as the F1 did.

    I need to see this in relation to something else - but this engine, it looks very well packaged. Very small, compact and tidy for a TT.

    If it's as small as it appears, my hats off the McLaren engineers.

    McLaren MP4-12C Engine: "Unique power unit"

    The McLaren MP4-12C is powered by a twin-turbocharged, 3.8 litre 90⁰ V8 engine - the ‘M838T’. This marks the start of a new era in ‘core’ segment sports cars - smaller capacity, lighter weight, higher efficiency and more economical power units. The engine has the highest specific power output in its segment which, when allied to its low weight carbon composite chassis, delivers exemplary power- and torque- to weight ratios.

    ‘M838T’ is a unique McLaren power unit, developed specifically for the 12C. It is compact, lightweight, very stiff, and offers an uncompromising combination of high performance and good driveability with excellent economy and CO2 emission values.

    Taking power and emissions in combination the 12C delivers its power at greater efficiency than any other car on the market with an internal combustion engine, including hybrids.

    ‘M838T’ features dual variable valve timing and produces around 600bhp and 600Nm of torque. A dry sump and flat plane crankshaft allow the engine to be placed extremely low in the chassis thereby lowering the centre of gravity and improving handling responses. It also features composite cam covers and intake manifolds, which reduce weight and heat transmission into the charge air.

    The engine revs to 8,500rpm, has quick transient throttle response and delivers its abundant torque throughout the rev range. A staggering 80 per cent of torque is available at below 2,000rpm, ensuring great driveability and no need to floor the throttle to deliver performance.
