Just got back from the Maranello launch. The car looks fantastic in the metal and the launch event was very special. It was great to finally meet with Dimitri and Stefan And kudos to Dimitri for managing to put a question to Luca deMontezemolo in the QA session after dinner
The build quality of the new car is a major leap forward from the 430 IMHO. The interior is much better in particular with a very modern layout. The optional sports seats share their carbon frame and overall design with those in the Scuderia but have a lovely mixture of leather and alcantara to finish them off. The yellow looks stunning and is a three layer pearlescent colour. It really shows off all of the design features of the new car in a way that the red and black cars didn't.
The cabin felt slightly smaller than a 430 but I didn't get a lot of seat time due to the number of people trying to see the cars. The front trunk space is a little disappointing from a touring point of view as it is quit a bit smaller than that in the 360/430. The fitted luggage looks gorgeous though.
At the moment I'm leaning towards ordering the car in yellow with the 20" diamond finished 16M wheels, sports seats, black leather and white stitching. If there is a carbon fibre interior trim option I may pick that as well.

but Which are the performance dates of 458?
IN MY OPINION!!!
0-200km/h? MAYBE 10,8?
0-300km/h? MAYBE under 30s? is possible?
I would expect performance to be on the GT2 level (i.e. 0-300 ca. 33s, maybe a bit faster than GT2 up to 200kph due to dual-clutch gear-box). Why? Based on our direct comparisons of GT2 and Scuderia I would expect that the additional 60hp should be sufficient to close the small performance gap between GT2 and 458 (I am talking of straight-line acceleration here, of course).
Thus:
0-200: 10.8s (maybe 10.7, maybe 10.9)
0-300: 33s
We got an official number:
0 to 200 kph: 10.4 sec, 0.1 sec slower than the 599 (it had to be like this, right? )
drag coef is 0.33 BTW

10.4s ? Pretty good. And Ferraris usually have no problems reaching claimed times or even undercut them.
Are you sure that official 0-200km/h for 599 is 10,3s ? I thought it was 11,0 or 11,2... And 10,3s was the fastest time from an independent test (AMS 0-300).
Well I just found some press releases for 599 from 2006 claiming 0-200km/h in 11,0s.

With 10.3 sec for the 599 I was referring to the post of arakis in this thread. I didn't know that these numbers are from a test. Thanks for clearing this up.

Wow, that's fast Even more so if you take this additional 0.1s off as well
What is your overall impression: does the 458 look better/similar/worse than on the pictures available on the net
I'd say the car looks far better in person that photo's seem to convey. A 2D photo just doesn't seem to pick up some of the subtle styling on the car. Everyone I talked to at the event loved the car and wanted one if that is any indication

Jeremy Clarkson once sait about the F430: This car is epic.
Now this new car really is. Nobody I talked to said something negative, this car looks so much better in person than even in the best pics.
It was very nice to meet Dimitri and Iain at the event, very nice to see some real faces behind the nicknames.
I also met Nick, nice to talk to you as well, unfortunately I couldn't find you again when we were looking at the cars and I also had to leave a bit early with our group.
Anyway, it was a great event and it was fun to meet some "real" rennteamers!

Stefan,
I am glad that you, Iain and Dimitri had a good time. Since you saw the car in person what is your opinion about possible exterior color? My idea is something like Grigio Titanio since IMHO lighter colors will not hide any detalis on 458. You will probably go for some shade of Rosso? Standard seats or optional sportseats?
Thanks. Kreso
Kreso,
I'd say lighter colours definately work better as they show up more of the detailing especially around the rear of the car. The yellow looks stunning and modern on this car and gives it a very different feel.
The standard seats are a big improvement and look good but the sports seats are very comfortable and look great with their mixture of alcantara and leather.
As normal Ferrari have left the door sills in carpet and they spoil the look of the interior for me when you open the door so either leather or cf sill option will be required IMHO.
Do Ferrari offer silver as opposed to the various grays or silver-blue? I think the Italia will look good in silver, although this colour has never been first choice for Ferraris. Any pictures?

Yes, there is pure silver called Grigio Nurburgring.
KresoF1:
Iain,
When you expect that order guide(or price list) will be available?
My dealer didn't know Kreso but the UK will lag behind the rest of Europe for sure as RHD production will not commence straight away. As Luca de Montezemelo said the first European deliveries will commence before the end of the year I'd suspect that ordering guides may appear in mid to late October for January build slots. I'd assume the initial customer cars will be to those people with high level priority and they may already have seen the options list.
LDM was cagey on the price of the car and seemed to suggest that Ferrari have yet to set the figures. I suspect they were waiting to see if Mclaren released pricing of their new model before finalising the 458 price structure. He only said the car was cost less than 200,000 but didn't specify the currency he was referring to

Of course he meant US-Dollar.

Yellow red black, i like how they did the german flag
No but i like it a lot as said before. Those optional rims are pretty awesome too, very retro indeed.
indeed shifting is ancient technology - so is a fuel burning engine.. I happen to like both :)

Yellow with 16M wheels for me. Forget the sport seats. They rarely are comfortable especially for long distance driving and they are death on resale.
I do not have any reliable information regarding MSRP but I continue to believe $225,000-235,000.

What exactly does that mean?

Are you talking about these wheels, which look like a modern incarnation of the 348-wheels? They are actually the standard wheels.
