Hi Mike,
The interior has me very intrigued! I'm still not a fan on the lights none the less. Can you confirm which engine the car has?
PS. Did you perhaps take any photos by anychance?
Thanks!

Mike,
I didn't take any photos because cameras were banned for the preview party.
The engine is an all-new derivative of the 6.75 liter V8 with twin turbochargers. Bentley people said that every part of the engine is new except the displacement and the V8 configuration. They had an internal debate over using a W12 like the Continental series, but a W12 could not supply the low-end torque so admired by "Bentley Boys" the world over. When asked about power output, they were pretty evasive but they answered that they had competitor's horsepower "well covered". This sort of statement is probably the source of press speculation that it will have 600 hp, or so.
I asked a very friendly Bentley director about direct fuel injection and he said no. They would see to fuel efficiency concerns with selective cylinder deactivation. I think he swerved around an answer that DFI was good for high-RPM power, but since they were going after broad RPM torque, instead, that DFI wasn't the way to go.
The Mulsanne looks 8 to 10 inches longer overall and the 21" wheels give it similar proportions in side view to the Arnage family. It's bigger, so it needs light-weight engineering to keep the new, extra power from being absorbed by the mass.
I also asked about AWD for the driveline. They said no, it will be rear drive only.

Hi Mike,
Thank you for the very in depth response. I hope they fixed that radiator fan noise - that bugged the daylights out of me on my old Arnage. Out of curiosity, doesn't it bother you the slightest?
I'm very much looking forward to see the rest of the interior. It looks rather promising!

I'll have to give it a listen and report. The fan hasn't made an impression on me, so far.

the pics of it at pebble make it look a lot better than the official ones. maybe the first time around we had a clasic case of bad manufacturer photos. in this pics the proportions and the shapes look splendid. then again maybe its because from this angle you can't see the headlamps. maybe this is the kind of car that ou only really like when you see it in the metal.

That engine must be about 45 years old.
Is that a record?
According to Mike, it's a totally new engine. And I think the Chevy Small Block V-8 is older (from the 1950's)...

Auto, Motor and Sport's web site got the story from a good source (that is, not from a marketing guy ):
"Der Motor des Mulsanne ist trotz der bekannten Hubraumgröße fast völlig neu: Wir haben so gut wie alle Teile angefasst", erklärt Gesamtfahrzeugentwickler Arno Homburg."
"The Musanne's engine is, despite the well-known displacement (i.e., carried over from previous model), almost completely new. We have reworked almost all of its parts", explains Complete Vehicle Developer Arno Homburg.

I wonder if there is some other currently used engine that's even older than this V8 or the Chevy's (maybe a 4cyl)?
