    Fast Models Changing ...

guys , I know that in recent years cars manufacturers are in very high competetive environment , which effected its models life rotations of face lifting , Its smart policy for med or low categorized brands , like chevrolet or toyota , but in my openion , Its NOT good for high end cars like porsche , lamborghini , ferrari . cuz the customer spent alot of money , and want to enjoy his car for longer time . yes , in my point of view , a ferrari generaly spent most of its time in the parking , to reach 10,000 km it needs maybe 3 years , while Audi or BMW can reach it in 7 months - 1 year .

example : in porsche models range , we can classify the models as :

    turbo (high)

    carrera (med)

boxter/cayman (low) "its not low , but lower"

look at 996 turbo ... what a nice example for a successful car Smiley, with no Face lifting until its production stopped Smiley ... on the other hand , the 996 carrera have been face lifted . to catch up with the 996 turbo shape "front lights" ... this is fine .

BUT , in 997 Smiley ... its completely different story .. all of us knows what im talking about . Smiley

    Re: Fast Models Changing ...

Porsche used to be exclusive in the pre 996 era: only serious car nuts would buy them. Now, they're "exclusive" in a different sense; you can't get one unless you have the qualifying large amount of cash to become a "member."

It's like the red and yellow calipers. All other things being equal, cars with yellow brakes are better than cars with red brakes.  They are colored to create competition between finicky owners who usually don't know much about cars/brakes. You can squeeze out more sales by making some superficial potential buyers think, "With these new tail lights everybody  will know I have a "new=better" car than they have.

This, immediately understandable "my car is better than yours" identification is *perfect* for ordinary middle class people, in ordinary middle class neighborhoods who buy Chevy and Toyota.

Porsche "facelifts" work best when potential buyers can borrow enough money to live in an "upscale" neighborhood in a close-quarters development of McMansions!

Yes , you're totaly right ! .. This is very good policy to gain nice sales and more cash " IN SHORT TERM " .. But there will be a limit for this policy , customers will not feel that they're "exclusive" .. I think 50% of porsche customers don't have deep knowledge about its cars , I agree that porsche cars getting closer to perfection , but going away from being Exclusive . Going to mass production isn't right step for porsche , it will put it in an intersection ,either to lose its place beside exclusive brands and move down as a little bit more expensive daily car than BMW or Mercedes , OR , to be a porsche as it was in 996 or 993 models . At the end .. Its veeeeeery hard to build a name like porsche .. But its veeeeeery easy to destroy it .
