    Rain sensing wipers

I noticed the rain sensing wipers on my GT3 didn't seem to work.  Placing the stalk in the rain sensing position simply caused the wipers to wipe once every thirteen seconds whether it was raining fast, slow or not at all.  I took it in to the dealer.

The dealer said the car wasn't equipped with rain sensing wipers despite the control stalk having the same markings as those that do.  I was a bit surprised but, being a GT3, maybe Porsche thought having rain sensing wipers was not sporting or something. Smiley  Anyway, I said, "Well, speed up the cycle time since the thirteen seconds is way too slow for me".  They said they would.

It didn't rain for some time afterward, but when it did, I turned on the wipers and "Beep! Faulty rain sensor!" was displayed as a warning.  This seems to imply that if I simply have a rain sensor installed, I'll have rain sensing wipers which I'd prefer to have.

Does anybody know if it's that easy --that is, all the wiring, etc., is there.  I just have to buy the sensor and have it installed?Smiley

    Re: Rain sensing wipers

I guess the system could be installed but whether the benefit would be worth the cost is another matter. As new, it is only sold in conjunction with the auto-dimming rear view and door mirrors. The rain sensor itself is part of the rear view mirror.

You can vary the intermittent wipe interval by the little switch on the face of the stalk, with the rain sensing wipers the same switch varies the sensitivity of the detector.

It seems strange that you are getting the warning message "Faulty rain sensor" if your car is not so fitted. Sounds obvious, but if you've got autodim mirrors, then you've got the rain sensor. Your dealer may be wrong.

    Re: Rain sensing wipers

It originally just wiped every thirteen seconds regardless of the position of the little switch.  Now the little switch does vary the interval, but not by much.  I think high is ten seconds, middle is, like, twelve seconds, and low is the original thirteen seconds.

Yet the warning still beeps at me every time I start up.  The service guy I prefer to deal with is on vacation so I'm waiting around until he gets back.

    Re: Rain sensing wipers

The sensor is placed in front of the inside mirror, just as seen on the pictures below. If that element is not there, you certainly don´t have the rain sensor installed. Check back with your OPC about price & possibility to installed it afterwards, they should also be able to detect and turn on/off the sensor in the PIWIS terminal.

    Re: Rain sensing wipers

Yeah, I think I'm going to have the rain sensor put in if that's all that's required.  It rained yesterday.  The static wipe speed delays are still too slow.
